FC3S vs. s13
#51
fc = rotary engine
s13= piston engine
fc = rarer
s13=popular drift car (AKA rwd civic)
I've had both, 240sx (ka24e), fc (13bt) both fun cars, the rx does seem a little more sports oriented to me.
Answer me this:
s15 silvia or 99 spec Rx7?
You'll know if it was meant to be...

No one buys a stock s13 to leave it original, these are builder cars , thats why they appeal to people buying them today. Sure its not gonna hold a reputation alongside a all original TII.
Some of you are saying you owned one and it was crap, well **** the car is near 20 years old now, alot of central state or eastcoast cars aint gonna be too pretty unless someone garaged it like a more expensive rx7. The original seats are gonna be crap by now, they are budget minded sports cars. Interior dash board is attractive *minus the aging seats* compared to an S4 interior with the funky steering wheel.
Ive come to the conclusion that the FC is a lil too over-engineered, not that is a bad thing, but alot of the components on this model were not carried onto the successor or any other mazda car. Upgrading radiator is a popular upgrade for FC, as well as DTSS eliminators in the rear.
Swapping the Diff in S13 is alot easier, subframe doesnt need to be touched. Building up the suspension will cost more due to more complex suspension pieces. Aftermarket tension rods and coilovers are night and day difference in handling. Upgrading the brakes to Z32 calipers are desired. Parts from other nissans and infinitis are upgrades for the S13 like brakes, diff , engines etc.
I can imagine if your a older person, you might not appreciate the 240sx because it doesnt have any heritage behind it.

This was a big choice for me too, until i found a great deal on a FC out here.
I found the FCs to be quite ugly when i first started to do some research on it... but its grown on me... alot...
now im only about a month off from getting my first FC.

I always thought it the other way around, never did like how any of the 200/240's looked. S4 FC's are pretty fugly though.

The 88 turbo and GTU models are the only attractive s4's. that style spoiler makes a big difference. And the square s4 tail lights only look good/passable on black cars (where the black part of the lights blend in) or the 10AE's all-white configuration.

That bumper makes me gag every time I think of it, and the trim, and the tails.... and that damn steering wheel

-The S5 has wider, color-matched moldings, whereas the S4 has black moldings.
-Different tail lights
That's it really. S5 body parts are highly sought-after, be prepared to drop big money for a full S5 conversion if you have an S4

i have two t2 and my buddy has two 240s both are down about the same amount of time usually adding something though. i like the powerband of the rotaries more . im a hardcore twostroke enthusiast so i love the rotary it has a very similar powerband as a banshee/blaster. wouldnt trade for any other car in the world.(except for an fd lol)
its more your opinion seems u have a lot of 240 experience. u would be safe to go that route but ive learned more about rotaries on this forum in the last year than i have piston engines my whole life. basically the same damn drama though air gas and spark just have to learn the basics of the rotary if you go that route

another thing to check on the 7 is the amount of corrosion in the cooling system, you could open the rad cap and take a look. this isnt a very good way to do it, but if theres ALOT of builldup on the aluminum parts i would be worried about water jacket failure.
the N/A rx7 and 240sx were totaly comeditor cars. the turbo 300zx (z31) and turbo rx7 (FC) were more compeditors.
OKAY, little observational history of the 240/s13 platform:
compairing pictures of JDM S13 silvias and USDM 240sx, they look noting alike. however a JDM 180sx and 240sx hatch/fastback look identical. As for the coupe 240sx, im thinking its a bastard child of the 180 front clip and the s13 silvia bodyshell so....yea
if you have a 240sx hatch, the authenticly correct motor is the ca18 (the 4cyl skyline motor)

theres already been some good points made by everyone, but i'll add as well since i own both (and neither one runs ) i have had both running at some point so i've experinced both of them. my fc is a 90 gxl and my s13 is a hatch with sr swap. the fc is sportier feeling for obvious reasons, its got better stock brakes and stock suspension. the s13 was faster of course, because of the sr, but my fc has dusted ka's easily. the s13 is cheap and easy to upgrade. the fc isnt bad, but if you arent really into the car you won't enjoy the upgrades after the work it takes. comparing just the 13b to the ka, the ka makes its power much lower in the rpm range since it is a truck motor so its not surprising. the 13b lives in the high rpms and while both motors have good points, nothing compares to a 13b on its way to 8k rpms. so you just really have to think about what would work best for you. or just do what i did and have both

I think FCs are great cars. However I think the better owners aren't stateside......
Apples to apples compare the true japanese variants. T2 to 180sx. Altho more opions arise when FC was discontinued when the s13 was just getting off the ground.
I'd take an s13 tho. Parts availability. Far more readily available engine choices (just nissan only you have SR,RB,VQ,VH,VG, etc...) Face it, the current trends are towards the s13. In time the FC will comeback just like how the e30 is coming back.
