you will smoke his *** easy. i have a 86 na and bought my sister a 87 300z. my 7 is much much faster than the z. z might scare ya at low speed, but once u get a chance to open that sucer up you will blow past him like nothin.

I've raced my friends Z a couple of times, it is a 91 n/a. Just cone filter. I have an 86 GXL.. with all the weight ive dropped from the inside and p/s and a/c its more like a base model (weight wise)

I CANNOT beat him from a dead stop, he just has better tourqe figures from a standstill. however if were both in 1st gear around 10mph i can take him.. at the top of third gear i'm just over 2 cars in front. from a stop i'm 2 cars behind..... FYI I dont drag race, i hate it.. sorry but give me some corners and my tokico's than we'll talk.

I think you just really need to work on your launch a bit. Not that I give a **** about drag racing either, but I know what Im doing with my car from a stop. There are very few cars that I can't get thr jump on off the line...even with my torque-less N/A

wow, I didn't know the na 300's had that much torque. They just look like a big car though. It sounds as if some peoples fc's aren't working properly though.

get a compression test done!!!and then port!!!

i promise you that a NA 300z will beat you in the end they top out well over 200Km's .. and i'm will to put my money on the 300z Na vs. the 2nd gen rx7 off the line... obviously given the same equal mods equal drivers.

I think hands down the 300z is a better car, but than thats because i will be a 300z owner well as long as all goes well.

who is going to drag race until their car tops out though? Top speed really isn't much of a factor here.

dude i had a 1990 300zx 2seater and stock it will roll a series4 NA hard. mine was an automatic and all it had was a cone filter...

any 1990+ 300zx (stock) will roll up a stock S4 NA like its going outta style.

i'm just saying top speed a 300(90+) will eat up the rx7(2nd gen)... also.. 1/4 mile it will beat it as long as all factors are the same 5 speed... drivers.. and mods.. straight line.. the 300z will loose if any corner's are invovled.

What should also be mentioned is that the 90's era zx is a LOT more expensive than S4 na FCs which can be bought for $1-2000 in great running condition. My "core" cost only $1200 and ran great.

But sure, comparing the less bang-for-buck s5 na FC to a Z of the same year does show an edge for the latter machine. I love the later Z's but just didn't have the money for one, so I found my FC and have no regrets.

i completely agree that the rx7 is a much more affordable car, most bang for your buck i agree.. hands down. But i figure now i'm going to step it up this spring and get in to a 300z for a few simple reasons the car has such nice lines... quick enough for me.. and can get a crazy deal, and i'm done with speed no more real racing, but the 300 has enough power that i won't even touch anything.

just wait til you have to work on one. it took me 2 hours to change the PCV valves in my 300zx... and thats easy for a 300zx.

i don't plan on working on this car.. If i do buy a 300zx it will have only.. 32XXX miles.. and i don't plan on doing any mods.. the car has been allways taken to nissan for anywork.. and has been lookafter like a 6month old baby.. i would know my dad has own'd the car since it had 3miles on from the dealership.. it hasn't seen the streets in 3 years.. but has been started and driven down my driveway too many times in a month.. to make sure everything is lub'd up..

You need to drive a car a lote more than just your driveway to keep it in good shape. Put at least 10 miles a year on it, its a shame to let ANY car sit. We have had cars worth 3 times that value and wouldn't dare let them sit.

Anyway, I've raced a '91 300ZX Auto and won, not by much but it wasn't very hard (no slamming gears and redlining it every shift, no hard launch at 4K either). I tried again on a slight hill, her torque got away from me. If I wasn't on a hill the second time, I probably would've got her. She even pushed me with her bumper at the next light slightly (she's a friend so its OK), cause she was pissed. My car also has about 50lbs of stereo junk vs her 20lbs and girly crap (I also weigh 30lbs more than her).

i owned an 82 and an 86 rx...now i have a vert...89 with a streetport...i also have a 2+2 300(90) auto my z is not the fastest...its actually the slowest ever produced...racing my 82 rx7 it may have been close.....racing my 86 it would have raped it(the z would win easy)....racing my vert it would be close.....BUT the 7s i owned( exceptp the vert ive only had for 2+ years...with no probs) were only for 3-4 years and i put a few hundred bucks in them!!...ive had my z for 7+ years and i tow my jet skis behind it....blah blah.....i have not put 1 dollar into that z except 50,000 mile prevent maintenace...and i let it sit up to a month at a time...every time i put the key in the ignition...the z seems to start before i turn the key....the starter goes like 1/4 a turn and the z fires up and its strong...when you need to step on the z...it goes faster than you expect...every time...but with that being said...my girl had a 2000 blazer sprt...auto..and if we ( and we did many times) went off the line...she could beat me to 60!!! in a blazer..i wasnt expecting to be beat by her so i just gunned it from a dead stop... but... when we got to 60 it was close...if i had done some brake stomps or whatever im sure i could have taken her...but you have to realize its a 90 z..and an 86 fc you are talking about

at the end of the day id rather have my z over both 7s i owned...wallet wise...cuz if i got beat it was not by much and my car has still not seen the shop!! its only got 73,000 miles so i only done the timing and such...but also..i drive the z like its a caddi...cuz ive never driven any other sports car as mush as i have a 7..and ill take the 7 every single day if im driving in corners...im simply scared of the weight the z feels like it has compared to even my vert when cornering!! and ive done some obsurd things in my 7s before!!

this is my testimonial because i have experience with the lower end of the scale of both fc and 90+ zs...take it how you want to...it is still a pretty evenly matched car setup that aloows the driver to decide the outcome more times than most!!

suppose i lose weight on the car, get a cone filter with a cold air intake system, and maybe distribute some of the weight from the front to the back. the 93 z has a cone filter (i just found out.) the track is a right angle. could i beat him?

Do you know from experience???

My bro owned a '91 300z 2+2 5-speed. We took G-tech out on it and my Rx-7. Same day Same roads same people in the car (different drivers though). My rx-7 beat the 300z in 0-60 and the quarter every time. G-tech said both cars were putting out the correct HP. The 300z is just plain heavy and fat.

By the way his car had no spare tire, jack rear carpet and misc. otherwise stock.
My car GXL with AAS and 10" sub, amps and the spare and jack all still in the car. mods listed.

the only weight you can really distribute from the front to the back is the battery. Just practice your launch and it sounds like you'll be in for a good close race.

My good friend owns a '93 300zx NA, and its pretty damn quick. If your friend is any sort of a decent driver he'll beat you. A stock TII would be a better race with a Z32 NA. My TII felt a little faster than my buddy's Z, we both have minor mods (intake and exhaust). With a GXL, I'd say no way unless he can't drive. Good luck though and let us know how it goes.

well, i would race him, but something went wrong and to make a long story short, he's getting a new engine, so i gotta wait a while to report back with results. Plus, i'm a little tight on cash, so mods are put on hold for now. It's a waiting game, and i'm getting impatient.
