fc vs. 300zx

i drive a 88 FC GXL N/A, and a friend of mine drives a 93 300zx N/A. If i were to race him, would i have a chance? What would i have to do beat this Z?

are both cars stock. how good of condition do they run. I would think because of the weight of the 300, you should be able to get him. Not positive though.

his car is all stock. i got an expensive exhaust system on mine (it was there when i bought it). I was told when i got it inspected that i have and expensive high profile exhaust. but other than that, my car is stock everything else.

does your exhaust say anything on it? is it just a cat-back? full exhaust? true duals? what?

EXPENSIVE means nothing I could have had a shop make my true duals for 600 dollars but I didn't want to bother and shelled out 1328 for them. Bolt-on powah baby but price means jack ****.

I say you will take the Z simply because the N/a 300 is fat and slow. When I rode in one it felt like a girl car.

if you could get better traction then him, and launch out of the whole, it would be hard for him to get ya. but if you bog, your *** is grass. There's a lot of variables not to mention driver error. RACE him and find out. then come talk to us.

No the 300z will work you over. I used to have one and it was alot faster than my FC vert stock vs stock. Plus you are trying to race him "drag" and that is to his advantage. Use your weight advantage and do a roll off.

Bukwild, you owned like the SLOWEST 7 ever made, except for the vert auto's. verts are like ridiculously heavy then most other FC's the 86 GS with some options is way under 3k, yours was over that.

300zx will Smoke you like a cheap ciggar, you have a bolt anchor GXL, I used to have one and there were very few cars I could beat, and my car was in great mechanical cond. even with a header I had troubles with some Hondas. TRUST me on this one NO chance!!!.

I raced a 300zx N/A with my 86 GXL(STOCK) and I beat him by about 3/4 of a car length, so all you guys who have no faith, check that out.....while we're on the topic though, I have another question.
I have an 87 TII now, and my friend swears he's going to buy the same year 300 and smoke the **** out of me....I have beaten a couple before, but were they just toast? I think a turbo 7 would clean up on a turbo 300 any day.

Stock a 90-96 300zx n/a runs a 15.5 1/4 mile
Stock a 86-88 Rx7 GXL runs a 16.5 1/4 mile

I think it will be hard to make up for a second with just exhaust. Also, the 300zx has more torque, so it will be easier for him to get a good start.

You can look at the stock 1/4 mile times at this website. I put it together 5 years ago, so it is a little old as far as new cars listed.

I ran a 300ZX NA with my '90 GTU. Dude had dual N1 exhuast, and a huge *** muffler and some bondo I think was trying to put off as a body kit. Well from 30mph in 2nd I romped him with my old motor. BoNEZ intake, TB mod, 6 ports amd VDI open, and a BoNEZ mid pipe. WEE gonna get the motor back with a huge street port. Gonna be fun!

it also depends on the driver of the car who will beat who in a race. But if you are saying your buddy is going to buy a 87 300zx turbo and beat you, he is in for a rude awaking.

Are you sure you weren't missing a couple spark plugs?

I think the race would really come down to who's car is in better shape.

I also have to question those 1/4 mile times posted. My car is slower that a Volvo 740 turbo wagon? Yeah right. (And yes I've driven both cars.)

A .4 second difference between a '98 firebird and a '98 trans am? What? The leather seats cut .4 seconds from the ET?

The 300zx TT was made to compete with the 3rd gen people.

A 2nd gen 7 will have a hard time staying up with an equally built 300zx Turbo. Newer Supras,300zx TT and FD are in the same class. FC = 240sx and crap like that. And if you cant beat hondas get your car looked at. My 90 GXL rolled hondas, mustangs and camaros all day. If they were V8 they gave me some trouble but I could either hang with them or lose by not much.

All those 1/4 mile times are from magazine tests (Car & Driver, Motor Trend, and Road & Track). Depending on drivers, equipment levels, and weather conditions a .4 second difference in 1/4 mile isn't that hard to believe.

there is a BIG difference between a 86 Gxl and 90 Gxl. I was refearing to the Hondas with the b16 swap or whatever the **** (heavily modded hondas) I would have trouble keeping up. I hope you are not saying you can hang with z28 cameros, or GT mustangs because that would be funny ****.

Nope but we're all talking about vehicles with STOCK engines here. There are Volvos out there with v8's dropped into them. If I got beat by one, I wouldn't say I have trouble keeping up with Volvo's, because once you start swapping engines around you can just talk about just makes/models anymore.

I would say I got beat by a Volvo 740 with a v8 swap, not just "A Volvo".

As for the times, yeah I can understand a .4s difference, but you should realize that if the times on your list vary by that much, they aren't going to be that useful once two cars are within 1 sec of each other.

I'm not claiming my car would hang with a 2002 trans am, etc, just that it's not a "boat anchor".
