I know cavaliers sucks but it was my mother's car. Two airbags and a windshield > 5000$ car.

Actually very very common for airbag deployment on a GM to take out the windshield, even if the car would have been repairable otherwise.

But glad you were not hurt... probably since you had newer less violent airbags... unlike those you would find in most cars like a FC or anything built before the late 90's.

Funny how my opinion is backed up in this thread by a EMT... go poll your local EMT's and see who's opinion is more accurate...go ask them how many more injuries are caused by an explosive device blowing off less than 2 feet from your face.

And then go look at the Highway safety statistics on people killed by air bags, because they were less than 5'3" or above 6'2"

See I can back my opinions. Other than one or two isolated incidents, I doubt that you can.

What's really ridiculous about that is that a windshield + two airbags would cost more than $5k. Maybe I'm just not familiar with how shops handle airbags. The most I've ever had to do with airbags is tell them to shut up, but that has nothing to do with cars...

ABS means nothing unless the driver is clueless and uneducated.

Air bags are deathtraps, and should not even be in modern cars... if it wasn't for the idiots too lame to wear their seat belts back in the 80's, air bags would never have been forced upon the helpless population.

Wearing a properly functioning seat belt is night and day safer than having an explosive device less than 2 ft from your face and 3 inches from your hands.

More people have been killed by air bags than any other auto safety device.

And then toss in the structural strength that the FC has so that it can perform as a sports car. This structural strength is considerably better than many modern cars, because it was designed to save the occupants without the need for airbags. Hell the FC had side door beams 11 years before it was mandated by the US federal government and has a front and rear structure twice the minimum strength as mandated today for cars sold in the USA.

Death trap... my ***!.
finally. couldn't have said it better.

Plus, with good driving habits and the FCs suspension also help avoid them. Or at least minimize damage/injury. I found pics of my old S4 after the accident I'll post the pics when I develop them.

35mph hit black ice and slid into a pole. The car started right back up after it though. I walked away with no injuries besides a headache. My only complaint on the safety was the fact that my seatbelt did not operate like it should have, IE i slid out of my seat into the steering wheel.
