FC Large IC ready bumper?

I hate to do it, however i Must purchase some sort of larger bumper so my intercooler fits behind it. I am not firmilliar with any of the fitments on bumpers for fc though...Ive looked at alot of the kits, and am not into hardly any of them, but now am down to just having a need to get something on there whether i like it or not.

I had to extensively modify the front radiator support to allow enough clearance for my turbo and the radiator.. Basically, i need something i could put the intercooler on in the location of the bumper support, as opposed to behind the bumper support where the stock intercooler goes.

Heres what i am working with...

[IMG][/IMG]

Here is the bumper i am thinking about..

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Once again, basically im looking for something that allows the maximum area behind it between the radiator support and the front of the bumper for stowing stuff like a large intercooler, trans cooler, and oil cooler. The stock one leaves zero room as is because it tapers back in towards the car so i would have to hack the hell out of it and it would look like garbage.

That AIT bumper probably wouldn't get you as much air flow as say, this one:

As for mounting, i mounted my intercooler a lot lower than that, I made some custom brackets. One of them bolted up to where the hood latch support was bolted at the bottom, the other one was about 14 inches over from there somewhere else.

I can get you a smokin' deal on AIT parts though, PM me if you're interested .

I have that bumper and that IC.

You'll have to do a lot of hacking to fit that IC there, for the IC and the cold side piping. You get about 1/2 of the IC open to air as the bumper sits. For my uses, that's fine, as I keep cool IAT (around 35-40* F over ambient) and I spray methanol after it anyway.

Yo digital solo dude, i actually have come across your threads recently. Id like to shoot the **** with you some time. I actually have cut the hell out of the front already and allowed quite a bit more room for fitment. I am just unsure of what kinda room is behind the bumper when its bolted to the core support. Most of these bumpers are stupid as **** as far as im concerned. The one you have is the only one that i feel looks some what subtle. Is there plenty of room behind it for the ic? Why the hell is nothing made in urethane, and only in shitglass? With sides this low, id assume they will get destroyed pulling in and out of my driveway being fiberglass.

this bumper ..... this is the first thing that comes to mind when i see it.

as far as the v8 vs rotary thing, im not arguing about it anymore. Ill just post my 8 second time slip when its done, and you can post your 11 second one. cyabye

thanks for all the suggestions, and even thanks for the attention from the roturds.

they are not made of urethane because you will never find enough people to ever re-coup the cost of having a urethane mold made and having a supplier press them for you.

So your SOL and have to deal with glass.

Go with a smaller core or cut some bumpers up, there is no magic bullet.

That unfortunately sucks. I guess i just got spoiled with the honda stuff. I found a urethane kit even for my tl, and the company actually went belly up that made it because the demand was scarce for the cost of the kit, so what you are saying makes perfect sense..

Oh well, i figured id try here, thanks! Odd that with all the drifter dudes wacking into **** and what not with these, that there would not be a desire for a rubber bumper to blast into **** with. who knows, fiberglass will do i suppose. Guess Ill just run a rear diffuser since all the rear lips are way too much for me imo.

they are making the glass bumpers with a little more flex in them, at least with glass they are easily modified and repaired.

I don't understand why your intercooler doesn't fit, as it looks like the same size as my friend's GReddy, which fits just fine. Also, my car has a pretty big Spearco intercooler, and it fits fine except that the hood latch needed to be removed.

The inlet only needs to be about 1/4 the cross-sectional area of the intercooler core. However, slow-moving drift cars may work better with a 1/2 ratio.

I think I have that intercooler...is it the godspeed one or w/e? I used the shine auto bumper...not too much cutting. Running no radiator support though.

Here's how much intercooler I had to work with:

btw...keep me posted on the dyno numbers...ls1 turbo sounds beefy as fuckkk

EDIT: You can mount the intercooler like mine...under that piece of metal..just used some plastic spacers and long bolts..fit perfect.

There is a Polyurethane half bumper from Vestatec that used to be available for under $200 and comes straight down like you are looking for.

If that is still available it would seem perfect to bond to a cut stock one for your application and tastes.

The AIT bumper has a lot of room behind it, plenty for the IC, the only trimming is at the opening.

Mine is coming off for an S5 with a factory lip spoiler when I respray the car though, as, as you mentioned, it's beat up just from trying to drive around with it. Way too low IMHO. The chassis came with the kit on it when I purchased it. I love the look, and aside from the front bumper it's easy to deal with. The S5 + lip will keep the lines good while coming up about 3/4" up front to get me some clearance.

Just PM me if you ever want to shoot the ****, somehow I failed to notice the V8 in your car in the top picture (I think I'm just used to them at this point, I'm on my 6th-7th swap currently. ).

Thats ******* exactly what im looking for!!!!!!!!

Thanks dude!
That bumper looks great too. I have not really tried anything with the stock bumper. It looked like there was no way it would fit in there and i hacked the hell out of it to get it off the car since all the bolts and **** were sea barnicles from rust. I was not to fond of the stock look anyhow. That urethane lower lip reminds me of a testarosa kit for a izuzu truck or something. Looks way dated, but i apprecaiate the research and link.

Digital solo: you want to sell me your bumper? Im located in Cincinnati, so its not too far. Whats the rear turn out like? I thought about it, but im not running any muffler anymore and its got those spots for a tip, just a 4 inch downpipe out the fender aimed up in the face of whoever is next to me

Smogsux:
Yes it was an ls6 in there with a 200 shot progressive controlled nitrous setup, polluter cam, and the t56 6 speed. I am now building a lq4 block with a 418 rotating assy and 8.8:1 with some modded out trick flow heads. I sold the t56 and purchased a stage 6 rpmtransmissions 4l80e with transbrake and circle d torque converter. Hoping to put down over 1000 and 850+ft lbs if everything goes as planned. Ill keep ya updated, 8s or bust.

Do any of you have any experience with the shine turbo scoop cover for the hood?

you have to trim around the mouth of the bumper to get the core to fit, you should get it trimmed and on in well under a hour, a pair of snips cuts right through, and a grinder cleans things up

If you want a larger opening, you can cut the shine bumper so it looks similar to this:

Car belongs to Danew, but he hasn't been on in a while.

^Same intercooler, stock S4 bumper..with the intercooler mounted far enough back like I showed you it will fit...just trim the hell out of it.

And damn...I'm envious.. I was originally trying to sell my 7 to put an LS1 or LQ4 into a 240z I had (smog exempt ) but noone would buy the 7 and everyone wanted the z so I sold the z and am just putting a bigger turbo on the 7...V8 turbo sounds crazy though..I think I'd be more than happy with a lightly modded LS1...maybe when I'm out of college...

Depending on where you live, here in ohio i have mine registered as a collectors item since its a 10th anniversary turbo. With collector tags i dont have to follow any mechanical violation protocol nor do i have to pass smog. I drive this **** on the street with 315 mickey thompson et streets, open exhaust, my passanger seat is a 20lb nitrous bottle, and my turn signals are hooked up to a 3 position toggle switch, hell theres even a blackhawk serpa holster with a HK usp .45acp bolted to the driveshaft tunnel now next to the shifter... lol, no glovebox to keep it in anymore, gotta keep it legal. haha....

Yeah...there's a collector's deal you can do in CA but you can only put about 2k miles a year on it or something...way not worth it. Lol rather pay the $250 to "smog" my car and take the risk with the cops....whenever I finish college I'm outta this **** state anyways.

And damn...your car means business lol, I've got full interior and everything..
