The fastest streetable NA setup...
Well, I think I have all my things laid out for what I hope will be a 250HP or close to it NA w/out bridgeporting or peripheal, etc. Here's what I think should do it:
Horse power list:
*New Street-Ported 13B w/ TII housings(easier porting), 3mm APEXs(for reliability), 89+ block w/ the lighter weight rotors [40HP]
*Dual headers straight back to APEXi exhaust or GREDDY catback. [28HP]
*UD Pulleys from either Unorthodox or RP.
[5HP]
*TB Mod.
[5HP] (unsure on exact outputs on this mod)
*Ported intake manifold(but not as far as MAZDASPEED7 did his, thats just scary, lol)
[5HP]
*Black Magic FLX-150 efan.
[3+HP]
*Removed Emissions.
[2+HP]
*Jacobs Rotary Pak(or crans hi-6, whatever floats your boat).
[2-5HP]
*A/C & P/S removed.
[5HP}
*Advance timing.
[2+HP]
Add that up and you should have: Roughly 100HP gain.
Other "GO FAST MODS":
*Electronic 5/6 port activation.
*9LBS Flywheel.
*ACT/Bonez street-strip clutch.
*CF or AL hood.
*Light-weight racing seats.
*Sticky tires.
*Short-Shifter.
With all this in mind, I am hoping to get into the mid 13s no problem(who knows, maybe faster ), and this would all be street-driveable too. As far as you guys w/ emissions laws, sorry....GOD I LOVE VA!!
And MAZDASPEED7 appears to be on a good start to this...aren't you running like 230HP or something like that w/out porting???
Sorry this is long, but I just wanted to share...

hey
thats cool. Im always interested in hearing a possible 13sec na. I have an 89 but its a gxl. 2880lb. Thats the same setup I was planning on doing in the future. I dont have exact specs but I know if you get flex a lite glass , it should also save big weight. a rule of thumb is for every 100 lbs you should be 6-10 milli seconds faster. Also you should get a limited slip with a 4.3 final drive setup From a gtu at a junk yard. That should be another 6-10 m secs from what i Have heard. Get greddys tripple underpulley set From rp. It claims up to 15hp. Also the black magic fan claims up to 10hp. Since your not worried about emisions get complete dual exahust. Im going to run my rb heads with streight 2''pipes all the way back like mazspeed7 This should be roughfly 40 flyweel horspower. My friend dynoed his with the same setup and showed over 30hp at the weels because of the intake. I heard you will run lean at high rpm with the duel, why not get some bigger secondaries from rc and an afc to control the fuel. My friends 14.3 na 87 in the 1/4 ran 14.6 before he tuned the fuel. Thats a .30sec difference. It will run like crap if you run to rich. Thiers a carbon fiber intake my friend uses that he says kicks but. look into it. every little detail counts. If you get into mid 13s I will be your hero.

I am planning on doing the rear end, and the fuel stuff too...I just didn't feel like typing EVERYTHING I'm doing, lol. I am big believer that you don't need boost to drop into the 13s! Of course, this project is going to take me a long time!!!

hey
oh, look into getting a 450 doller sas chip. claims up to 46ftlb of torque with other mods on an na. They show dyno results. www.mdracing.com

you probly have been thier before. It would be fun to beat stock 3rd gens. Oh, and for nitrous. not that fun because you cant use it all the time. Kind of a bummer when your done using it. back to slowness. lol

hey mabey your right. I have one underpulley for my fc from rp I bought from them for cheap because they had it laying around. Later go to rx7.com go to drag section or something and look at ari yallons cars stats. The stuff they sell Thats on the car will be highlited click on ud set. its the only way to get thier I think.

hey, as for your other post on the erbuni kit. My friend has an 87 that runs 14.3, well he has the front bumper from an integra 90-93 or something. he said it fit near perfect. I tried to buy it off him but no cigar. It looks almost like the stock one but more agressive at the same time. I love it. It would go good with side skirts. Also if you wanted a better rear end, I saw a video game called tokyo highway on dream cast with custom body kits for the 7. The rear end was bad f-in ***. Im going to try and do it. Custom though. Will get picks when its done.

UD pulleys and electric fan. I dod not notice a gain in hp with either of these. I did it more to keep the water pump from overspinning and making the bearings last longer. Those two together probobably only give 2-3 hp.
Advance timing. You would be much better off getting a chip or fully programable ECU. Also, if you ever plan on using NOS, you will need the timing to be set according to mazda specs. Advanced timing does not work with NOS. You will not be able to gain that much HP without something to control the fuel. A S-AFC would work fine, but you would be better off with a fully programable ECU such as a Haltech.
Electronic 6 port actuation. That will kill your hp with those mods. The port sleeves flow so horribly on a modified engine that its a waste to even have the sleeves still in the engine.
3mm apex seals are not the best seals for a high revving n/a engine. Actually, they are worse than the stock 2 mm seals. You would be better off with carbon seals if you are staying completely n/a of steel 2mm seals if you will be using NOS. PHE makes some hardened billet 2mm seals that would be great for a n/a with NOS.

carbon fiber intake manifold!?!?!?!where!!
anybody know anything else about those carbon fiber intake manifolds???that would kick ***.
i'm also on my way to building a quick n/a,so far, engine is getting rebuildt with 89+rotors and t2 centerhousing,streetport,10 pds flywheel[comming]centerforce 2 clutch,i was gonna find myself a 89+ intake manifold, but,i will be running rb header with precilencer and high flow cat,i need it to be somewhat quiet,as it is a daily driver,i guess thats gonna limit my hp a bit.i will be doing the elektric fan mod also, griffin rad. on its way!!probably pull a/c and airpump off.later

But a sheet metal intake would be the way to go for big hp on a n/a. Ill be getting one of those custom made soon.

could you elaborate on a sheet metal intake?if your talki'n about what i think your talking about, how do flowdynamics come into play?it seems, thats pretty big $'s to r&d something that would work good.hmmm.anyway,curious to hear some more about your idea.
thanks

Ted, go check the other post if you havent already. I think my numbers are optimistic, but possible. I do agree that some of the numbers above are rather inflated, such as emissions/pulleys/e fan, etc.
I have almost every bolt on for a n/a on my car, and I *think* I'm at about 230 hp. Ill have a dyno run to back it up soon for you. I know you know a whole lot about the turbo's and Im not questioning how much you know about them, but what kind of experience do you have with modded n/a's? No offense, but a lot of your numbers sound as deflated as some other peoples are inflated.

You should just go out, spend the $75, and get the dyno sheet. I was told that the stock ecu is only good for about 200 flywheel hp. But i am curious to how much hp you're putting out, as when my FC engine goes back together, my car will have all the mods you have done to it. Although, i'm not clear on if you had your upper, middle, and lower extrude honed like mine is going to be.

Re: The fastest streetable NA setup...
This is my breakdown (for Mazdaspeed7) on the mods list.  I don't build high-performance NA's; I do know what certains mods will do for ANY FC on dynos...
This is a good basis to build an NA block, but the 3mm seals are a waste of time, as Mazdaspeed7 has already mentioned.  The streetport gives you the POTENTIAL of making more power, but you cannot claim you make more power just due to the port job...
WITH the porting, it might make this more power...
NO WAY underdrive pulleys are going to make that much power.  You're looking at 1-2hp at the MOST.
This makes ZERO power gains.
MAYBE if it's Extrude Honed, but no way some Joe Blow with a die grinder is going to make 5hp doing this himself in his garage.
Uh, I doubt it.  Like the pulleys, 1-2hp MAYBE.
Unless you're talking about removing the cats, removing everything else makes ZERO gains.
More like 1-3hp at the MOST.
This will NOT gain you any power, unless you're stupid enough to be making dyno runs while you're turning the steering or with the AC on...
This is dangerous - you could easily detonate the motor, unless you're planning to run race gas all the time.  I don't consider this possible with a daily driven street car.
If I count all my numbers, it is going to be around 200hp, NOT 250.  And this is all flywheel power, versus rear wheel power.  I'd put money this combination doesn't put down more than 200hp to the wheels...
