"The Fast and The Furious" question?
I was just wondering what kind of whistle sound did that green eclipse make whenever he reved the engine?? Was that the exhaust or what? It sounds kind of cool and i was just wondering is that possible to do on our 2nd gen rx7's??

its a part of the turbo system, its called a wastegate, it vents excess exhaust gas. I think it was wastegate at least
Actually that was a N/A eclipse in the movie, and if you have a Turbo 2 your car can do that.

hey dude...
Welcome to the forum,
how much for a TII???
You have one in your sig buddy, so you already own one! haha.
Lets see some pics of you car by the way.
Like Node said it is a large wastegate. Like lets the excess air out??(correct me ppl)
Alot of the stuff in that movie was "simulated" not real.

I'm not new to the forum i only changed the name. I don't want to post picture of my car, cause most of you think it's rice, and i really don't care what other people think as long as i like it.
Now that wastegate, i have to run larger turbo in order to have that right? How much something like that might cost?

I have a BOV and Bov makes sound when i change gears or whenver i boost it and release accelator, but this sound that eclipse has it's making like a whistle when it's idling and reving it. I mean i'm sure you all saw the movie, just watch the big race and when he unscrews the bottles of the nos.

If you have a turbo car you have a wastegate. It's just internal. The external wastegates make more noise. As for the movie that whistling sound could have been someone blowing through a flute, I would'nt take anything in that film for reality, they made so much bullshit up it wasnt funny.

Aren't you the guy with the blue FC with white stripes? And wait, are you saying you'll get a bigger turbo to get a bigger wastegate so it whistles? Just buy the speaker wastegate Probably cheaper, but not by much

Hi guys...here you guys chatting about wastegates...well i am using a Trust 40mm one one my FC and frankly had it vented to atmosphere and geeezzz...the sound it makes is really a killer!!!
Had enough of the noise so plugged it back to the exhaust system...now i get a kinda cool whine while on boost!!!

Node I'm the guy with White rx7 and blue stripes not the other way around, and i was just wondering about that whistle sound, you don't always have to give me your smart answer whenever i ask something.
Thanks anyway.

The car actually does have a Turbo. It is a GS eclipse with a turbo kit added on. Think they sold it to someone, maybe the one you saw was a remake or an extra used in the movie.

they might have had an extra one...but i have an older magazine where they review the car from the movie and it has NO turbo...just a GS with NOS...
also, look at the car in the movie...anytime it drives by...there is no FMIC...just the open hole. now, they "could" have used the stock DSM intercooler mounted behind the front wheel well...but i don't see the point in that

Whew - never knew turbos were so confusing...
As I understand it:
Wastegates, usually built into Turbo (sometimes external) - send excess exhaust gases around the turbine to control turbine speed, and thus boost pressure - over a certain pressure, the gases go around and the turbine stays at the same speed as pressure increases. Venting this into the engine compartment would be a BAD idea, unless you like engine fires. This is why they're usually internal. External ones are sometimes plumbed into the exhaust because they're replaceable, and for all I know more adjustable or durable.
BOV, Blow-Off-Valves, attached to piping between turbo and intake, vents excess pressure when throttle butterflies close and turbo is still producing boost (i.e. when you let off the throttle and the turbo is still spinning fast, it keeps trying to force air into the closed throttle). Without the BOV, the extra pressure would feed back to the turbine, forcing it to decelerate faster and thus increasing wear on the turbine and bearings, and possibly leak past the throttle body or cause it to wear faster.
If it whistles when the throttle is let off (i.e. during shifts) it's a BOV. If it whistles as revs climb but stops when they fall, it's a wastegate and you're on fire.
A wastegate vented to atmosphere on a rotary would be incredibly loud (and probably on an Eclipse too...)
From the looks of F&F, I'd say that was an Eclipse GS-T, FWD. I didn't look it up, just a guess. It would be cheaper than converting a non-turbo.
I still don't buy two civics with no tube frames or slicks jumping off the line with a modified RX-7 TT and then the "GSX", RX-7, and civics holding steady to 140mph.
But, of course, listing the problems with that movie would go over the post length limit...
