fan shroud with koyo

hmm I put a S5 koyo into my S4 and the tip of the fan blades lightly hit the shroud.

is there any aftermarket shroud I can buy?

You shouldnt have a problem with it hitting at all. I'm sure 99% of all people with koyos use the stock shroud or an efan. Are you sure your radiator is mounted correctly? Maybe you mounted it too low.

I did use the S5 brackets.
The holes matched so I didn't bother using my S4 brackets.
I put a spacer on the bottom of the shroud and it seems ok now. Clearance is very tight tho. And strangely, only one of the blades hit it before.

MAKE SURE IT CLEARS

quick story for you

background -
my car is an 86 gxl with cosmo swap, run a koyo with stock fan / shrod. Took a long time to get shrod adjusted, only a few blades hit, finnaly ened up trimming shroud and it worked fine

the story - this past friday i was driving my rx7, having some fun playing with boost. Did a bunch of wot 1-2 into 3 pulls. It was a hot day so i expected to see coolent temps at or aroundd 200

At one point my temp started rapidly climbing from aboujt 190 to past 200, i watched it keep climbing even when i was coasting.. ok pullilng over

poped hood. The fan was CAUGHT in the shroud. the engine must of touqed and managed to clip the shroud, cracked it and became entagnled in it

i have almost no tools on me, a socket set and my friend has a pocket knife. I kill the car (now creaping past 220 on a 95* day) we unbolt the shroud, cut it, turn it 180 and cut it again, rip it out and throw it aside (burned the hell out of my hands)

i fire the car up to keep the coolent moving, car is even hotter, i start to limp it around hoping to get it to cool.. wasnt working at low speeds, had to continue on the highway. by the time the temp started to drop, my woldhandheld controler read 122*C.. converted thats 251*F ING HOT

had to limp my car to friends, misted the rad with a hose untill the temp became reasonable

Somehow i didnt kill the engine... It still pulles 60kpa at idle, boosts, etc. I even took it camping later that day, and have drivin it every day sence that occured

however, this was all due to me not leaving enogh room between the shrod and my fan. The new shroud i have has enough space for me to run my finger all the way aroundbetween the shroud and the fan

dont half *** it!
