failed emissions test today!!
Damn ..i failed the emissions test today! i passed CO, NOx, but failed Hyrocarbons (HC). the maximum allowable for HC was 407 and i got 1035 at idle...( the driving test was fine for HC ) how did that happen. i just got new cats, and O2 sensor....hmm might be the injectors.. well my question is has any one here failed the HC ? and what did they do to fix it this problem. Thanks alot guys!
oh i have a 86 GXL N/A

Check the water temperature switch at the bottom of your radiator(drver's side). You should have continuity at this switch when the radiator is at normal operating temperature. If the switch is open, either replace it or just connect the two wires together.Without this the air relief valve will always be open and little or no air will go to the exhaust prots or the cat and you will have high numbers.(I am assuming you have decent plugs, timing is OK and have clean oil)
