Fabricating Fiberglass. If you know how please tell.
Hi I would really like to learn how to make things out of fiberglass. I was hoping that if any one knows how to make things out of fiberglass they could please tell me how. I am sure other people would like to learn how to also. If I do get info I will keep you updated on my progress. Please do not explain it if you have not done it before. If any one knows a webpage that explains this please post a link or send it to me at rdc215@hotmail.com
Thank you for sharing knowledge =)

1. really nothing to do with 2nd gens, probably more appropriate in the lounge (more responses too)
2. Amazon.com, look for books on laying fiberglass.. This isn't something that can be covered on a forum like this in it's entirety, you gotta do some research.

I own a second gen and would like to fabricate a box for subs and experiment making a new dash/meter holder. I figured somebody might have done it before and been in my shoes a while ago. I thought some people could probably help cover it in its entierty since the Na to turbo II was explained pretty well I figured this would be a walk in the park. Plus people are always talking about having fiberglass hoods for under $1000 I figured this would be a good way for them to learn how. In other word if you know how please explain it. The resources explaing how to do this are very limited. Thank you.

I also own a boat. You get lots of fiberglass opportunities there.
Go to a boat store, and buy a West Marine (or similar) kit to do a small fiberglass project.
They will also sell you great how-to books.

wow skippy that is one of the things I want to experement with I even have an old comp to experement with 1st. I saw it done one time a while ago on a website before I ever even had a 7. this guy had a silver 7 it even had a paintball gun and 2 model rockets that shot. It was pretty cool. But he had winamp and a screen to run visualasations that ran hand in hand with stereo. 1st I just want to custom make a box then go from there. Eventually I want to learn how to make a hood. If there is any way you could email me a step by step directions just as to how to fabricate the matieralt it would be appreciated I plan on just experementing with it from there.

There really isn't all that much to working with fiberglass. You take the fiberglass out of the can, mix in the hardener, soak the cloth, and apply. You need a cleaned up surface to apply to, and need some basic tools to cheese grate/sand the surface when it hardens.
Most all auto part and body shops sell the stuff. Just buy a can, read the instructions, and experiment. I've used it to patch broken plastic heater boxes, build dash parts, etc. On a scale of 1 to 10 it's a 1 or 2 on difficulity, not really all that tough to work with.

Lesse...
You want us to explain to you the differences of...
*fiberglas powder
*fiberglas chopped strands
*fiberglas mat
*bazillions of fiberglas weaves
(Yes, the word "fiberglas" (one "s") is a trademarked name.)
*vinyl ester resins
*epoxy resins
*S-glass
*E-glass
*MEKP hardeners
*amine-based hardeners
And then explain to you how this all works?  You gotta be kidding me...

brother if you want to sculpt ruggid rigid small or large form fitting objects out of fiberglass.....check with any local custom stereo installation shop. these guys are masters at using fiberglass to there advantage, and also know a few tricks on how to cover it up with other materials to make it look nothing like fiberglass.
i tried a few things in the past with fiberglass inspired by a buddy in the field and there is no limit to what your imagination can let you create. the key is patience. just cuz youre not a doctor, doesnt mean you cant have patience. (nevermind)
make a big finished idea in your head or on paper, understand the structural properties of fiberglass, then build things a little at a time, making sure you dont compromise structural integrity for time saved. and dont sacrifice on the quality of the mesh you use. it will be the down fall of your finished product.
