anyone heard of megasquirt? it was mentioned to me that it could do similar stuff to the SAFC and would also eliminate the AFM for less money...

it depends. the fcon is better, but it doesnt let you upgrade injectors

Id take the fcon. It reads and understands boost, safcs are a 2d static map.

get a "GCC" for the fcon..

search for it on ebay, they go for $100 or so and plugs in to the fcon. It has five rpm point dials on it and allows you to adjust the fuel curve.

So you CAN upgrade injectors, but you do need a gcc to tune them with.

The 3d map that the fcon uses is why i went with it. It adjusts fuel by boost and rpm. SAFC's only adjust by rpm. boooooo!

It seems like it would use less compaired to a safc sometimes..

the fcon sees the boots level and rpm and adjusts fuel levels... so there are times that you are at a low boost level and med-high rpms or high boost and low-med rpms and the SAFC wouldnt know it.

So maybe a mile or 2 per gal.. maybe. I dont have a safc to test to.

people with boost controllers and safc's... Do you setup your safc for high boost, then run hella rich at low boost? that sounds silly to me. I hope there is dual settings on that thing. Witch is also seems silly to me when the fcon does it for you.

I run my safc off of the pressure sensor voltage. I have the hi-thrtle map on the safc activated at 9 pounds of boost, which happens to be about 80 percent on the throttle display. I set the low map to 79 and left everything else alone. So this way I'm essentially running the stock ecu until 9 pounds at which point it switches over to whatever I input via the safc. No this still isn't nearly anywhere as good as 3d fuel maps, but I think activating the hi-throttle map right past the stock fuel cat just made more sense than the tps, especially one that would read 100 percent at 1/3 throttle.

Really I just want to see if I can get 250 rwhp with a front mount, the safc, and 4 720 injectors. I hope I can go lt8 or e6k by christmas though.

what mods do you have?

on the hks site is says the fcon is for people with upgraded exhaust, intake and fuel pump that are making more boost and need to adjust fuel to compensate.

Says it can do up to 14psi/1bar with no problem.

but the stock IC will do nothing at about 11 psi and the stock turbo wont last long running that high of boost.

The fcon will grow with you as you mod... it will see the boost and adjust. The Safc you will have to set or have someone set it, using a dyno is prefered I think.

so put it on a daily drive it.... it will run better, as long as the rom chip is for YOUR car.. where did you get it?

Gcc tuning?

I have a question for you who already use the GCC, i have F-CON installed on my S5 and will soon need bigger injectors, when you tune the gcc do you plug it in once, tune it and leave it in the car or do you disconnect it after you´ve done tuning it?
Do i have to look at it all the time (its not so pretty.....)

Mount it under your seat or something then. I think it has to stay on.

Well I just bought the SAFC II, the reasons being it has 12 adjustable points that can be adjusted by every 200 rpms. But I see piggybacks as only a short period thing. When you get down to all they do is lie to the ECU to fool it into giving you more fuel. So if something else goes wrong your f**ked. I am only using mine because I don't have the cash to go stand alone right now. I see standalone as being the only correct and long lasting solution to fuel, ignition, and timing.

the fcon intercepts (sp?) the signal from the ecu to the injectors and sends its own signal..

the safc lies to the ecu and tells it the air is cooler or hotter to adjust fuel feed.

can u hook up a GM 3 bar map sensor like I did on my DSM. It allows the values to change according to boost as oppose to throttle postion
