exhaust question......(already searched)

Is the RB full set for the TII (59hp increase) street legal or not. I've read off road only.........not legal in california........blah. I searched and really could find any good facts. I'm pretty new to this so let me get this straight.........

Normal TII:
1. Engine 2
2. Manifold 2
3. Turbo 2
4. Down pipe 2
5. Cat 2
6. Y-pipe 2
7. Exhaust tips

think thats right. correct please

TII with full RB exhaust:
1. Engine 2
2. Manifold 2
3. Turbo 2
4. Down pipe 2 (new)
5. Silencer 2 (new)
6. Y-pipe (new) 2
7. Exhaust (new)

If i get this right........the silencer cuts out the cat? Does it still pass inspection? I imagine with a 59hp gain everyone would do it if it was street legal. just my guess. I've heard exhaust was the first thing to do in mods. I'm hoping to purchase a TII in the next 3 months and was planning out what to do and when. Also.......Should you install all the things under the hood at once? (i.e BOV, CAI, FMIC, exhaust?) thank for ur time in advance

with exhaust plan on getting a fcd at the same time. Then a walbro should not be too far behind. if you see boost to 11 or more then you need to get all kinds of stuff.

there are lots of thread about modding TII's and what the best order is to do it.

Its illegal for CA and I'm sure in some other states as well. I believe theres a law where you can not remove anything related to emissions especially the cats. Some inspectors do or don't do a visual inspection but if caught in CA, I believe fines can be as much as $2000.

Thats what we get for living in a liberals filled state!

I'm not sure about Texas but Cali has some pretty strict smog/emissions laws. Try posting in the locations forum and check with other "7" owners from Texas and see whats up.

Oh, if you run more boost, there is more air so more fuel is needed so it will use up more gas.

Just running some GReddy mufflers only and gutted cats. Its ok but the exhaust tips are waaay too large. Running at 7-8 PSI. Previous owner installed it. Saving up to replace it with the full RB exhaust though.

The RB exhaust is a nice way to start. Just get the fuel pump and FCD as mentioned and you should be set. I'd recommend some aftermarket gauges too especially a new boost gauge.

everything you do will lower your gas mileage... sucks dont it.

now there are a few thing you can do to make it better.

for a little better.... use a safc and get it dyno tuned with a wideband.

for as good as its gonna get use a stand alone EMS and also get it dyno tuned with a wideband.

just dont act a fool for the last mile of so before you get to where you are going. the let it idle while you take off your belt and close windows.... thats good as it gets until you can get a TT.

just be smart about it and it will last a while, treat it bad and it will break sooner then you think.

1300cc.com has a writeup on the fuel pump rewiring. FCD is not hard to install. Exhaust might be a bit tricky but shouldn't really be all too bad. The only tricky part might be installing the downpipe and heat shielding.

Most of the forum members do most of our work ourselves since these are old, inexpensive cars. You can save yourself quite a lot of money by doing it by yourself and you learn stuff along the way too.

No major or "special" tools required at all. Just a basic ratchet with sockets and some combination wrenches should do the trick.

Should take no more than a few hours. That includes dropping the old exhaust out too. The only maybe bad part is if you have caked on or rusty bolts. Just spray on some liquid wrench and let it set.

Nice price for a GSL-SE. Its a steal even for the engine and the other stuff the SE came with. But I can't really say, you'll have to check out the car yourself.
