Exhaust options for heavily modded FC

Exhaust options for heavily modded FC
this question could be straight forward but i would like your guys' opinions....
i have a built FC, it has a large street ported engine with mild overlap aswell as a BNR stage 3 turbo, it made 344whp @ 12psi and nearly everything has been upgraded in one aspect or another....
it currently has an RB exhaust from the turbo back, i was thinking about going to a single 3" exhaust to an HKS muffler and was wondering the pro's and con's, would i gain any power over the RB exhaust with it's pre-silencer and two mufflers?, i know it will be alot louder but by how much?...
stupid question i'm sure but please give your input!, thanks!...

On my last t2 before the car I now have I went from a rb complete but not the all stainless that they now sell to a corksport from turbo to *** end. Much louder & I ended up going back to RB Complete but got stuck with the heavier stainless! Sucked for me.
Which rb do you have stainless? If you take it off I might want to buy it from ya if the price is right!!!
EDIT: BTW I almost bought that RHD from the guy who sold it to you. I always wondered what happened to that car. Have any luck with it or mostly head aches?

the RB i have is not stainless....
it's been absolute headache's but i have everything figured out now, i blew the engine on the dyno a year ago, it had mysterious problems and started detonating and knocking out of the blue, started my fine tune dyno pull which resulted in a large detonation and lean spot chipping a seal.... broke me on the inside....
i then shipped the car to edmonton, had an S5 engine completely rebuilt and installed, babied it since it was put in, broke it in and had it professionally dynoed, couldnt be happier now, it's alot of fun to drive and has nearly every aftermarket part available for the car, if a part was not available, a stock piece was modified accordingly....
love the car, would not take back the experience for anything in life....

I have seen a S5 half bridge with a 42r flow 680rwhp through a 4" downpipe which eventually met up to a Y pipe back section of the RB system.
When I did my big build I ditched my RB turboback and went to a 4" all the way back to a can. I'm kicking myself for doing do and wish I had kept the Y pipe back of the RB setup. I will be buying it and modding it for my own car this year... again

you cant beat the RB exhaust, it is perfect for our cars no matter what the horsepower is. If i were you id stick with it...just listen to the others that already responded.. they wish they stayed with the RB..I would suggest removing just the pre silencer if necessary. if yours is rusted then buy the new stainless system..its very very nice

i hear a little bit of excessive noise coming from the pre silencer, as if it had a hole in it or something but i've taken it off and havent seen or noticed anything, maybe it's just me and the way it was built, however i have contemplated on taking the pre-silencer out and putting some sort of test-pipe in to replace it, but i'm somewhat afraid it will make the car sound like garbage and obnoxiously loud....
idea's?...
i love the RB sound and look, definitly makes the car look stock, however if replacing it resulted in another 10whp gain i may have considered it keeping all of the RB pices ofcourse and add a straight 3" from the RB downpipe to the can with no resonators, pre-silencers or anything....

If you have the older non stainless RB then your not going find much better bolt on exhaust for power and noise. The older exhaust was a 80mm unit (note: BIGGER THEN 3") and had a great "Y" pipe that did NOT neck down. The newer stainless RB systems are 3" (OD) and the "Y" pipes neck down (have a pinch in it) hurting flow and the pipes after the Y are smaller in diameter then the older stuff as well. The only way you can gain power and speed spool up is a straight through 3.5" or 4" system, and it WILL BE LOUD.

I'm actually hoping to get a little bit of low end back too going back to the RB setup...

Go smaller and or more restrictive on the exhaust after the turbine on ANY turbo car will result in slower spool up and potentially less top end. READ: faster spool up will increase bottom, mid AND top end by going bigger, not smaller. Some times its a trade off to being able to hear your stereo and or not get ticketed by the man lol.

mate are you more worried about the sound (and loudness) or HP gain ?
why not put on a emp sensor and see how much or a restriction you currently getting. no point changing you current setup if your only wasting $$$

u aint gonna find much better than the RB
u can custom make a down pipe Y into dual 3's all the way back with just 2 borla xr-1 mufflering the noise
but i doubt u'll see much gain unless u r running a gt42r or some crazy turbo bigger than that

hmm, thanks for all the advice guys, personally i havent decided if it's going to be a strict weekend racer or my daily driver like the past 4 years, i wasnt too concerned with how loud it would be but if it would be as loud as mentioned, **** that, i'll stick with the RB, it just sounds so tame yet good at the same time, cant really go wrong....
thanks again!...

You forgot the most important option of all - build your own
I'm running a magnaflow 3" in and dual 2.5" out, then 2.5 inches all the way to the two magnaflow mufflers which are 2.5" in and 2.5" out. Very quiet, little rumble to it, but still sounds like a rotary. I've been through probably 7 different versions of various bolt-on aftermarket exhausts and this is by far my favorite. Personally, I think it sounds slightly better than my friends S5 n/a with the pure dual RB complete system. Although the headers do tend to make it a little raspier than than a turbo anyway

This is going to sound terrible but hear me out.
*puts on flame suit*
The guy I bought my s5 from put cherry bombs on the back. It is all stock from the engine to the glasspacks. Now I had absolutely no idea there where glasspacks on this car until I crawled underneath one day to fix some exhaust leaks. It actually sounds good and isn't very loud. Opinions may vary on this though.
I don't plan to keep them on my car, but I spend so much money on other more pressing things that need to be done to the car, I never have the money toi worry about it. If I had a camcorder, I'd take a video but I don't.
