Are you talking entire car, or engine bay?

It all depends on the quality of the paint job you want. I bought a Sharpe Titanium HVLP gun which was $195. I used top of the line PPG paint basecoat and clearcoat. The paint cost me about $125 for just enough to paint the engine bay. There are alot better guns than the one I got, but I was only painting the engine bay, and that was high enough quality for me.

You could always get away with a cheaper gun (like $100), and cheaper paint or a combo paint that is basecoat/clearcoat in one. But that won't turn out as nice.

PPG and Dupont are the best paint companies as far as I am concerned.
