i realize that it takes r&d to get it started... but why not use the first few hoods to cover the cost of it, (R&D)... then start charging according to the actual cost of the hood, and man hours...
do doctors REALLY NEED to be paid 200 dollars an hour? no, not really, but they save peoples' lives... I dont see many CF hoods saving peoples' lives.
just because someone is the only one to do something at a cerain point, that doesnt make it ok to gouge prices does it?? does society make it seem reasonable to make the RX7's hoods more expensive than a civic's?

Choice A: Make some crappy hoods, sell them, and then have everyone bitch about how they got ripped off.
Choice B: Make some high quality hoods, and sell them at zero profit. How much money do you honestly think Dave makes off his hoods? Price gouging, are you kidding me?
Yes, you can buy civic carbon fiber hoods for $300. Ever taken a good, close look at the quality of these parts? Its garbage.
Quality costs money... for materials and labour. NO ONE will work for free. FC owners won't pay the prices it takes to produce quality, and they won;t accept crappy products even if they cost less.

in other words......stick to stock .........there really is no need for a CF hood is there? A vented hood......perhaps is worth it........but a CF copy of a stock hood is not worth tho because you are not gaining much from it.

I thought I might add a few cents here...
The Fiber Images TII hoods we sell are better than ANYONES hood on the market. There is no other manufacturer that makes better hoods than them. I have seen every companies CF that makes hoods for the most part, and if you have ever seen one of those $300 hoods from taiwan, then you know they are crap. Some of them are not even real CF, but a piece of sticker under the resin. The others are just one layer of CF with the rest of the hood fiberglass. Fiber Images hoods have been run over with an F350 truck, towing a trailer with a car on it and they pick up the hood and there is NO DAMAGE. Show me one hood on the market that can do that. Go to their page and at the bottom left of the page is the videos. http://fiberimages.com/main.html
If someone sells hoods for $300-$400, then that is what you should expect to get. If you want a hood that will last for years, comes clearcoated, is near indestructable, and has a perfect weeve on it, then buck up, spend the $649 and get a hood. Our shipping is changing on the hoods, and instead of spending $150+ for shipping since you have to insure it for so much, we are shipping them DHL so they will be alot less even with the insurance.
The picture of Craigs white car on AWR's page that shows a CF hood, if our old hood that we used to have made locally. Not sure what the hood Tony makes looks like, but all his other fiberglass parts I have seen and used are top notch. We have his rear fenders on our SEMA car (appearing next month in Super Street BTW) which also has a 100% CF FI hood, top and bottom.
In the last couple years, I have probably sold about 50-60 TII hoods and about 15-20 N/A hoods. I don't make crap on the hoods, but I make them anyway. The only way any other company is going to make cf parts is if there is a die hard FC guy there who wants them for his car. That is what happened with us I guarantee you that no one on the board, and no other company in the US or abroad can make a hood as nice and durable, that doesn't need hood pins as Fiber Images.
If people on here, or anyone else got 10 people together on a specific design for a hood, Fiber Images would make them. But they would need a hood to mold, and 10 hoods paid for then they would make them. That never happens, so that is why there are no other styles made. I have heard over the years of 20+ people saying, "we are making hoods, they are blah blah blah" You never see any of them do you? Nope...
Get some people together, organize a group buy or something and I can come down on price, because my cost goes down. Get enough people together, and they could be pretty cheap

Hey dave.
I bought one of the Fiberimage hoods back in July.
You said they are already clear coated? I thought it just had a clear gel coat?
And adding to that question. Any special ways to prep the hood for clear coating?
Mine from the box had some chipping on the sides and I just got a big rock chip this week in the front.

To prep for clear, just prep like you would any regular body panel that is painted, and clear it.

"YearsOfDecay" and I have been PM'ing back and forth. He is making a prototype of a vented hood. I told him if he can get 9 other people on board and paid, FI would make any hood we want them to. THey just need a hood to mold, and 10 paid people. The 10 people would get their hoods at cost. Just some info to think about...

Right now... I'm still in the design phase.... I scrapped the first hood i cut up cause it was involved in an accident.. actually.. I fell on it... long story.... I was trying to rig up a pulley system to lif the hood off the saw horses so i could getunder neath it and do fiberglass work on the bottom of it without flipping it over and fell off the step ladder onto the hood...... 240 lbs of me and a hood with a hole cut into it = taco
I have to go back to the boneyard and get another hood after i get the currnet project.. a 4 gauge pod to replaced the idiot light cluster done......

Id really like a nice functional reverse scoop hood, material doesnt really matter. Everyone just seems to want to make a TII hood replica, but many people have FMICs and have no use for them. I would have already bought an FC3S.org hood if they were a nice non-ricey reverse scoop.

yeah i like the tii hood alot even if you have a frontmount and it's no longer fuctional it still looks bad *** and fits the car great, that why i'd love to see a reasonably price fiberglass or CF version of it
