Engine rebuild

Well, i have an 88 NA, and i think blew an apex seal or two, i live in Michigan and there isnt really anywhere around here that i would trust to rebuild the engine, so if anyone could give me the name of a good place it would be apprciated, and if you would happen to know roughly what the cost to rebuild it would be. THANKS!

How far are you willing to travel to get the rebuild done? There's a guy here in K-W who does excellent work with rotaries.

Have you checked out www.rotaryresurrection.com ?

You "think" it's blown? Why?

Hey where are you in Michigan? I also am in need of a rebuild. I am thinking about sending mine to Rotary Resurrection.

Amur- How far into Ontario is this other guy? I would certainly consider bringing my whole car there to save myself time from having to remove the engine. I would do it myself but lack of space is a Biatch.

He's in Cambridge. Right next door to Kitchener. Say just over two hours from the US border (Sarnia) at high warp (about 130 km/h.)

Have you checked out the midwest/mountain forum, which includes MI? You ought to be able to scare up some nearby shop recommendations there...

Amur- if you were talking to me...........yes I visit that section daily. But there really isnt a rebuild shop in Michigan. There is a great shop for getting work done in Monroe Michigan. Its called Banzai Racing it is owned by a fellow memeber, BlueTII. His name is Chris and he is a great guy with TONS of knowledge. He had a 400 HP T2.

I think that sending my engine down to Kevin at Rotary Ressurection is the way I am going to go.

I live about 15 minutes north of Detroit, but going to Cambridge is a bit outta my way. I know I have blown the rear Apex seals cause i took it to an import shop by me, but the guy says he cant rebuild it. So i figure i have to just rebuild it, but i was hoping that there was a shop nearby so i wouldn't have to remove my engine and send it out, but thats what its looking like im going to have to do. Thanks for all the information.

Another thing too, when I rebuild it I might have to sell my rims if its too exspensive. There 17" SuperAdvan 2 piece split three spokes, so they should bring me a nice sum of money, but i wanna avoid doing this if at all possible cause I absolutely love they way they look on my car!

do you have any pics of your car? Yeah it sucks that the motor capital of the world doesnt have anyone who can work on our engines.

Give Chris a shout- his email is chrissanders@netzero.com

His shop isnt to far from you.

I've posted in the Canadian section, asking if anyone knows of any shops near the Michigan/Ontario border that do rotary rebuilds. Hopefully, somebody will have a suggestion soon...

Checking in...

It looks like there's nothing near the MI/ON border in the way of rotary shops.

And to clarify:

I was talking to my 7 mechanic this week. He doesn't do rebuilds (more specifically, he only does rebuilds for himself.) He DOES know of a guy in Toronto who does rebuilds, but this is a guy who does top-notch, full-on work only. $$$.

Sorry for the bad news.

Yeah that suck, with all the cars in Detroit no good mechanic that can work on our 7's!!! Ahh well, i think right now its looking like im gonna send my engine down to rotary ressurection. I need it to be rebuilt regardless and they seem like they can give me the best price. How much would the engine cost from Atkins Rotary? And how much do you think is a reasonable price for someone to re-install my engine cause i found someone who said they'd do it, but it would cost anywhere from 900-1400$!!!!

My last engine transplant was about 2 years ago and cost me $1500 Cdn. Keep in mind that covered labour to remove the motor from one 7, then remove another motor from a 2nd 7 and then put that motor in the first 7...

Nowadays, I'd do it myself.

Well, this guy wants to charge me 900-1300$ just to remove it and put it in. I gotta pay another 1200$ to get it rebuilt by Kevin at Rotary Ressurection. Thats like 2500$ and thats breaking my pocket really bad! I wish i could do it myself, but the last thing i need to do is mess something up cause I know nothing bout removing or installing it. Ahh well, my babys worth the money tho!
