Engine Question

Okay heres the deal. Some dude at the junkyard is trying to sell me an S4 N/A Engine for 650$$. Is that a good price or not? My friends who were actually there said that the guy turned the key n it started right up. Does that mean it has good compression? They said that it was really clean n ****.

make em do a comp check... but 650 is still too much... go talk to kevin landers, like 1000 for a rebuilt motor...

Is the engine still in a car??? If it is and itll crank then get a compression test on it and see what itll put out. If not then...i dont know, show him $250 cash and he'll most likely give it to you since not too many ppl want these engines, or have the cars to put them in. At least if the engine is bad, youll get one good rotor and one housing.

Well, as I understand, FL has a much bigger rotary population than the southwest (ALL of the southwest ) So, that maynot apply to him.

I think thats a great deal if the compression is good. make sure you do a coolant and compression test if those check out I'd grab it if you need it.
Kevin landers only does rebuilds, he doesn't sell long block engines as a whole, nor does anyone elsel, they usually always need the core parts before they can do anything. At least thats how mazdatrix works. am I wrong on this?

Does he charge 1000.00 with parts? Or is that labor? That's real cheap for a rebuild when some full kits are 700-800 bucks

^ only problem is the shipping cost

I'd say $650 is too expensive for a 'junk yard motor'... But def do a compression test and see if it's worth anything. Also make sure there's no white smoke on start-up. I'd probably pay $500 if the comp was 100+.
