The tps could very easily just need to be adjusted.

If an S5 needs adjustment, it needs replacement. It won't be able to produce smooth voltage across the range. That's especially true with the full-range sensor, but also for the narrow range.

I have the same problem on my '89 vert, I just leave it that way since it really doesn't affect the performance of the car unless I let off the gas. It probably needs a good adjustment to get it to work properly.
If you are looking to replace it, here is a website that blows Mazdatrix price out of the water for a new TPS: http://catalog.drivewire.com/drivewi...on=919777&fm=1

ooh....nice find.
I prefer the resistance method of adjustment, but even that only gave me perfect results for 1 month before the tps went bad further.
You don't need the tps tester to do the two lights method posted above. Two digital multimeters will do the trick. On = 12V off = 0V. If you're good enough, and can discern how the voltage is affected by the rotation of the screw, then only one multimeter is required.
I see the two lights method as a rough adjustment and the resistance method as a fine adjustment. However, I've adjusted too many S5 TPS's to know that adjusting them is pretty futile.
