Engine detailing trick

I detailed the enging this morning on my '86.

While the engine was very cold I put tons of Gunk on it. Got Gunk everywhere. Then took the garden hose and washed it all down.

Now the trick... I put ArmorAll Tire Fome all over the engine. Started it up, when for a drive for about 20 minutes.

Opened the engine compartment and the results are FANTASTIC.

I also have an NSX and read about this on The Ultimate NSX Reference site. They also have before and after photos.

No way. The engine is cold when you put the ArmorAll on, and then you start it and run until the stuff evaporates. I don't think that put you in danger of an explosion.

At least put wide tape or plastic over the electronics before you flush out the bay. Don't want to be frying that TPS!

in the future start the car after its washed, then when its all dry and cooled off, spray any silicone based product under the hood, tire dressing, WD-40, silicone spray, anything like that will do. Let it sit for about a hour or so, then take a rag and wipe up the excess and to get to any spots you couldnt spray. The silicone spray will help the electronics, the hoses and keep the metal from corroding.
