Engine compression on Rebuild?? Man...how much longer??
Ya, so how long will it take before I've got enough compression to have this thing start up without a pull???
My engine was just rebuild due to a cracked side seal- all other parts were fine so I re-used all the other seals- I knew they would need to re-seat.
I got a pullstart this morning, the first drive!!! Drove it for 60 km's. It's still a bitch to start, but it finally catches after feathering the gas a bit... usually takes abot 10-15 seconds.
How long will it take to build up compression??? (I'm at 60km's right now)
I'm idling at 1500 right now with about +20 on my S-AFC!! But that's mostly due to the following....
I also have a large vacuum leak, sounds like it's coming from the FRONT of the engine- strange... it's a chirpy-whistle.... Thought it was the water pump but it changes in intesity the more vacuum is present.

On new seals with nice used housings it took mine about an hour's worth of driving around to get where it would start easily. It would still occasionally flood itself at startupfor the first 500 miles, but was easy after that. It always starts now, rain or shine, hot or cold and it has a couple thousand miles on it.

Not sure if you found this yet, but i'd guess that your airpump hose is off or not on all the way. If memory serves I had that problem a while back and the hose that went from the airpump to the lower intake manifold slipped off. It can be hard to see sometimes too so a "glance" is not enough.

Air pump has been in the garage for 2 years, hehe.
Havn't looked though... it's Christmas day, and I'm too drunk and full!

Nope, definately not....
100% vacuum leak, but never heard it from the front of the engine. This isn't something I'm really expecting any input on, it's just a matter of locating the leak, my main quetsion was about the compression.
Thanks though man!

okay, now I can remember where my chirpy whistle came from so I'll take one more guess before I strike out here. Sorry it was a while back when it happened.
Mine was coming from the left side of the throttle body, opposite the alternator, even though it sounded up front.
It was those hoses that come from the cruise control section. There's this plastic white cap that is screwed directly into the TB and it has two some times three hose placements for it. Mine was disconnected. I can't remember if it was the cruise or what but I'd check there.
Here's a pic. Its the the white caps on each TB.
If not, then me not know where strange bird lives

put your ear up to the power steering pump and the fluid tank for the PS. for some reason my PS makes a whistle sound like a vacuum like and it comes form the fluid tank on the PS....
Also find those electronic solenoids (3 way valves) on the right side of the engine just below the upper intake manifold. some of those are pulling in air all the time depending on throttle responce and stuff. so maybe thats what your hearing.
That plastic cap is the Water Thermo Valve, its used for the secondary cold start plates. some people just remove the vacuum hoses and cap off where the vacuum hoses start.

No emmisions... no PS!
I still can't track it down.. it's sounds like it's coming from everywhere- it's tough to locate because it's fairly loud under the hood.
Oh well... I'll find it eventually- it's big too, since I can't even get the car to idle under 1500, and only idle at all by fdoubling the idle fuel with the S-AFC.
Again, don't worry about replying to that part of the post, i'll find it eventually, I just wanted to know about engine compression. 300km's on it now, still need to pump the gas to get it to start, but much easier, I'm sure it'll take almost 500 kms's
