engine bearings and water seals?
alright heres the deal. I did a rebuild about a month ago and did not change out the engine bearings, they looked fine. They where not. So now I have the new bearings and am getting ready to pull the engine out. I hear the new bearings can be installed using a large socket and a press. Any other ideas on how to do this?
Also my big question. When I take the motor apart to change out all the bearings will I have to replace the water jacket O rings?

yes to having to change the o rings
no to the socket.
go to your local mazda dealer and see if they will
let you use their tools to press in the bearings, i know
my dealer would let me do this if i wanted to.
Or you can do what i did and turn out the tools needed
in a lathe
are you changing the main bearings only?
if so you do not have to pull the motor apart to do it.
if you are changing the rotor bearings and main bearings
then i guess you are pulling it apart.

i dont know for sure the bearings are bad, but it is the only thing i can figure is left. I am having very low oil pressure, i've checked everything else in the oil system and the bearing are the only thing left, unless the oil pump is bad. I have around 50psi on start up but when the engine warms up it drops to around 10psi. I've checked the oil cooler bypass and the regulators so, i dont know. Some one told me there is an o ring between the front cover and the enigne and that if that goes it can cause problems. I'm going to pull the engine and see what i can't find.

yep, that o-ring can cause extremely low oil pressure if it's not installed correctly, check out the http://www.mazdatrix.com faq and you'll see (somewhere about front covers)

I second the front cover and the Mazdatrix site. On my first 13B rebuild I had the symptoms you describe. The gasket set that they sell DOES NOT have the right front cover gasket. That one was made for a 12A or God knows what.
I took their advice and eliminated the gasket totally but kept the o'ring arrangement. Used common Black RTV and was very careful not to clog/muckup/ stuff the small approx 1/16 inch hole that feeds your oil injectors. Located on the left side of the front cover. About half way down.
It's not your bearings and most likely not the oil pump. But....about the oil pump. Make sure the small set screw in the side of the pump is STAKED in place. I found one of these screws in the bottom of a oil pan on a wrecking yard engine and it got my curiosity up as to where the heck it came from. Found it missing on the side of the oil pump body. Whew. Good find. Lucky find.

well, its the font cover i do believe. When i removed the front cover there was only a little peice of the o ring left. I've installed a new o ring and am going to drop the motor back in tomorrow. (crosses finger) ![Smilie](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
