Electrical problems, fuel Relay not activating.........
Well, I been trying to get my car to start for a while, but I still have electrical problems. There is a short somewhere or soemthing. Anyways, we noticed the fuel relay did not activate when the car was cranked. we tested off the battery and it activated and even tried my friends fuel relay from a running car and it still wouldnt activate. We test for power, and the fuel relay is getting no power. So what can it be? Help me guys, please. I been waiting so long for my car to run. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Where is the engine fuse exactly? Never heard of an engine fuse. All my fuses are good that I know of. Haynes manual had some wiring diagrams and it says it gets power from the main relay. but the main relay is good.

Go to the first two threads on this forum. The one called FAQ. About half way down there is a picture of the ENGINE fuse. Also download the real wiring schematics from this forum and you'll see it. The ENGINE fuse supplies pwr to pull in the main relay and the circuit opening relay. The main relay does not pull in the circuit opening relay that supplies the fuel pump.

..Also, the EGI INJECTOR and the EGI COMP fuse have to be in. I forget which feeds the ENGINE fuse.
And if a turbo, maybe there is something amiss with the fuel pump relay/resistor package/plug.

its a turbo, and wheres the resistor package? Fuel relay got no power to it. I'll check out the engine fuse. EGI is good. Oh yea, is the 87-88 Turbo sending unit compatible with my 89-91 sending unit.

The fuel pump won't get power until the engine is cranking or running. To test it you need to jumper the yellow check connector beside the FR strut tower and turn the ignition on. Open the fuel filler and put your ear next to it. You should hear the pump running. Remove the jumper wire before driving.
It's very unlikely the fuel pump resistor/relay would prevent the pump from running.

Well, go to the Fuel Pump Relay and Resistor and pull the plug off. With the jumper in the fuel pump check connector and the key to ON, you should have 12vdc at the two Blue/Red wires in the connector.
If not, then go to the Circuit Opening Relay just above the steering column and pull the plug off and see if you have 12vdc on the black/white wire under the same conditions as above and also if you have a ground on the Brown wire (comes from your jumpered plug).
OR, you might try something different. Reach under the car and pull the small wire off the starter soleenoid. The one on a simple blade connector. Comes right off. Then turn the key to START (starter won't run of course because you took the wire off), BUT as long as you hold the key to START, the fuel pump should run.
In fact, I encourage you to do just that with the starter/key to start. No jumper in the fuel pump check connector required. Just a good battery and all plugs connected up.

You need to get a wiring diagram and follow the power path. Check at each point in the circuit until you find where it stops. The circuit is very simple and not hard to troubleshoot. Stop guessing and check it properly.
