Electrical problem-help quick

Alright I go to turn on my car and I just turn the key to the ON position and the entire electrical system goes dead. If I take the ground off and put it back on it goes back on but will die if I try to start it again. Any ideas on what it could be? Thanks.

sounds like a bad ignition switch (contacts burnt or sticking).

Anything else I can check while I am at it? Oh and that means I have to look where I hooked up my turbo timer and take apart the dash, right? Could it be something to do with the turbo timer maybe? Thanks alot.

sure the ignition wire is not unplugged. Or you have a dead battery???

Sounds kinda fishy that the whole electrical system might be dead. Even the lights???

If you had a dead battery turning the lights on would cause the same problem

Sounds more like a bad or very loose starter wire, or bad battery connections, IMHO.

Well the starter wire has been falling off from time to time but I used some pliars to make it stay on. How could this be related. The entire electrical system shuts down(like the battery is dead) but when I disconnect the battery and reconnect it it turns back on until I attempt to start it again.

even the lights too, points to a bad battery or battery connection

Not to sound ignorant or anything but how could it be a bad battery connection when everything works fine until I turn the key to start the car? Wouldn't that mean a short somewhere? You could be right, but the way I see it it couldn't be the battery. The battery is 3 months old. I am going to tighten up the terminals and see, hopefully its that easy. Thanks for the replies.

Because you've suddenly put a huge load on the battery with the starter switch, the small amount of contact you have won't flow that much juice.. I'm not an electrical engineer, so I'm not totally sure what occurs in that condition... But I've seen that occur plenty of times, you need to fix the battery cable, and check the battery over.

two bad cells in the battery would cause the problem.

Whats the voltage (with a multi-meter not the stock gauge) when:

Off?
When key on?
When Key crank?
when light's are on?

I will have to check but when the key is on and when I crank the car it is 0 I'm pretty sure. I will take the battery to get checked out as well.

I think I fixed it. I called my local rotary shop and he told me to check this wire that is black and is between the EGI fuse box and the battery that runs down. It has a harness to connect it together and it had to much pressure on it so it was pulling the wire out of one side. Damn that guy is good. Told me that **** over the phone.

For future reference: any weak or loose primary circuit connection can do that (including the connections insde the battery).
