electrical problem with AC

I bought my '87 na a mounth ago. It didnt come with a logicon control unit or a belt for the AC compressor. I got a logicon and belt installed. when I turn on the AC it dont work. Just blows hot air. I checked the wire going to the compressor and its not getting any power. I ran a jumper from the battery to the compessor and it engages, but i'm still only blowing hot air. I don't know what to do next? Im thinking their might be a problem with my air mixture control and I don't know why the compressor is not getting power, also when I turn the fan on, to its lowest setting it blows like high. and the speed wont change. its either off or on, no matter where the control is.

No freon in the system.

The compressor won't turn on without sufficient freon pressure in the system.

It doesnt have to be a leak as A/C systems do need to be serviced topped up etc.
You can actually do it yourself using any of the R-21 replacements as freon as you probably know is not available. I did this after getting my Vert and instantly my A/C is working perfectly once again. I am in BC Canada though so am not sure about your state laws etc. but it really is easy and 'relatively"safe. In fact At Walmart here you can buy the refill kit for like 70$ now. Some will say don't "f" with it etc. so in the end is up to you and there is the possibility that there is a leak so if unsure you maybe could at least get/do a leak down test. As well search here and you will find more info as others have done this as well.

R21 won't work in a car system.

He would need either R12 or R12a or Freeze 12 in order not to change the seals, and R134 or R134a if he was changing seals.

I personally recommend Freeze12 myself.
