Question electrical gnomes

My 89 convertible is acting up. When the doors open the clock resets and the radio shuts off. Additionally, when the headlights are turned on the radio shuts off. What relay do I have that is bad?

You probably blew your room fuse. Check the 7.5 amp fuse in the driverside kick panel. I'm not sure about the headlights.

The clock shutting off is most likely bad soder connections.

And electrical gremlins, not gnomes.

I like my problem that still has me stumped. All idiot lights work, clock doesn't, radio doesn't, cig lighter doesn't, UNTIL I turn on my lights and then they all work. The clock resets every time I turn my lights off too, along with the radio and cig lighter not working when the lights go off.

You may have more than one problem. The clock is very likely a faulty warning display.

Someone wired your radio wrong and put the illumination wire off of the headlight switch circuit in the wrong place. My guess.

We have another thread like this going on, BTW...

There are also diodes in the headlight switch that can go bad, causing weird problems...

Was this to me or the original poster? I had absolutely no problem until I pulled my dash and dyed it black. After reinstalling the dash all these problems emerged.

To the original guy...The third item I wrote there was a little tidbit for you...

Everything you're describing is on your "room" circuit, which has nothing to do with your headlight switch, and is powered hot off the battery. Best guess is you got a wire crossed somewhere...Maybe with the "illum" circuit

Actually, my radio/cd unit would turn off whenever I opened my door and turn back on whenever I closed it. I didn't know what was wrong with it until zmarko told me that the person wired it to the inside light source so the light switch was the power button for the radio. Something's probably just loose in your car.
