So... how much does a TII rear end cost? I could find the half shafts online, but not the differential itself.

Nor could I find the drive shaft. So how much are they?

We've got one on our 20B car.
hIGGI has got a bunch (3?) from a guy off eBay too, I think.
These are just stock FD3S LSD's.

So a diff/ any diff that will fit a FD will also fit into an 87-91 TII with out any problems. Is that correct? yes? no? maybe?

That is correct.
The FC turbo and FD runs the same rear diff "guts".

My drift car, Phoenix's and Clarks FC's all run FD torsens from powerhousejimbo (ebay seller)
Jarda is drifting with FD torsen from JapAndy (ebay seller) and we have other 2 torsens on the way from him as well.

No problems with those units in any of our cars, very happy.
European TII's do have open diffs, this is cheapest (and probably best) solution to LSD for us.

That's what all the S6 (i.e. FD) guys think.
I can't prove or disprove that idea.
I know the Torsen is rather delicate when talking about drag racing applications.
In this case, the clutch-type LSD would take more abuse than the delicate worm gears in the Torsen.
For road racing, you can't beat the linearity of the Torsen though.

If I wanted a *strong* LSD, I wouldn't **** with stock parts.
I would drop the money for a Cusco or an OS Giken LSD in a heartbeat.

Well just because we are bringing up rear ends and the na being a 8in(I hope i got that right) and the fact that ford owns part of mazda would it be possible to put in a rear gear from a mustang that has the 8in under it. Its just a guess. I know that the mustang has a solid rear and the 7 a independent. But I think that the center case is removable from the mustang one. Sorry I dont know much about rearends on a 7 I havnt even paid attention to the one under my car. not even sure what the accual assembly looks like under the car.

But hey I thought I would just bring that up.

Ring gear might be "close", but I doubt the pinion would even fit in the FC rear diff housing...

Not worth it - the stock FC rear end is plenty strong.
Unless you have a reason to majorly change the gear ratio, it's a royal pain in the ***.

There are alternate transmission gears set that you can play around with, but I find the 4.10:1 rear okay in most applications.

the NA final gear is not an 8-inch. it is one inch smaller than the TII ones, if i remember.

as for interchangeability, the most trouble i would go through is maybe the miata rear, which is the same diameter gear, and also is available as a 4.30:1 torsen LSD.

other than that, if you really need to increase the gears, you are racing or increasing the powerband of the engine significantly, in which case you are better off spending the money on an aftermarket clutch-type LSD...

OMG you think a Japanese FC designed in early 80's came out in 86 in the states has anything to do with a mustang, I dont care who owns who, I dont think they had a partner ship at that time anyway, its like your hoping the parts are interchangable, its disturbing

dude what is your problem. Alot of cars that came out over sees that originated have parts from American cars. Vaxhaull uses alot of GM parts. It was just a question. Maybe the flexibility of haviing an almost unlimited supply of different gear ratios is disturbing to someone who dont know ****. If I could hell yes I would change over to the 8in ford. I can swap out a ring and pinon in one of those in less than 30min. Hell if I had it my way the rear end would be a 9in. Oh god "disturbing". Never having to worry about finding a replacemant part or something like that. And you could change ratios in a matter of minutes for track use. If that is disturbing then you are fucked up.

Maybe I just think outside of the box. Always wanting to do something different. Or trying something new. If I fail at it atleast it is a proven fact that It will not work.

Ted- I was just throwing the idea out there. You know me alway trying to think of something different no matter how stupid or hard it is. Just trying to open up peoples minds to new ideas. Its nice to have a new question every once and awhile that isnt coevered in the faqs.

coldfire- I know about the Miata rear end swap. I have a GTU and It already has a LSD so I am not plaing on changing out until I do a T2 swap.
