I am curious to see if you have similar results as the guy at this website http://www.rx7.voodoobox.net/howto/chip/chip.html

Is your timing changed at lower rpms?
What is your boost level at?
Was it altered with the chip?

Thanks
steve

Unfortuantely, I didn't take any before 40-70 runs... A second off sounds about right though from my butt-ometer. Probably closer to .5, but it is very noticeable.

The boost has not been altered. I'm at about 6.5lbs with a downpipe as the only mod.

I'm sure the timing has been advanced quite a bit.

Sorry folks, I couldn't get on the forums last night...

A simple exhaust swap ended up taking me about 8 hours. Silencer went in fine.... Y-pipe upgrade went in fine.... Mufflers, not so fine. I would assume that when mufflers "connect to the stock Y-pipe" and a y-pipe "connects to the stock mufflers" they should work together. I would assume wrong... The Trust mufflers have about a foot too much pipe to connect to the Y-pipe. I'm guessing either the NA has a different Y-pipe and these mufflers are from a NA or Trust included a Y-pipe.

Regardless.... I now have a downpipe, presilencer, upgraded Y-pipe, and stock mufflers.

I put about 30 miles on the ECU upgrade yesterday and still have no complaints. After further review, I would say the ecu alone takes off about .5 in the 1/4 if not more.

300 bucks for 1/2 a second in the quarter is a good deal in my book. Throw in the added performance at part throttle, etc and I think it was money well spent.

Hopefully we'll be able to get dyno or track numbers soon.

Trust used their own Y-pipe.

Sounds good... maybe we should organize an rx7 BBQ or something around here.

Count me in.

Hey Matt,
I'm glad to hear that the ecu upgrade made a substantial improvement.
I'm going to check out Sac raceways schedule on their website then maybe we can set a date to go.

BTW I had to stay an extra day in El Paso so I didn't post yesterday either.

Sounds good. If you want, we can put it in your car for a few laps around the block. I haven't closed everything up yet, so it would just take me a minute to remove it.

Good question. I will be dyno'ing mine with the E.L chip in it.. but I will have alot of MODS ... and no stock dyno to compare. But I will still post my #'s

When I had my chip done they sais one of the big adjustments is the injector duty cycle. The stock duty cycle is around ~60%. My chip was programed at max boost 18.5 PSI to put out 83% duty cycle to the injectors.. .. thats about as high as you can set them and still be safe. The injectors will burn up with anymore duty. But that is a HUGE bump in fuel output.

I just went to Rx7.com Fuel caculator. Now these numbers are MAX. But you will get the idea. Stock injectors at %58 duty cycle produce ~184HP while if you adjust nothing but the duty cycle... i pummped it up to my max 83% duty the HP goes up to 263!!!! thats a huge improvement. Now like I said that is max numbers.. but that is just the injector cycles.. that does not include timming adjustments or anything else the new ECU does. So I think it is well worth the cash. I payed to get 2 chips programed.

$600 for S5 NA ECU chip :-(

I have a couple of questions.

What R&D? Who is doing RD on 10-15 year old cars?
How are they suppose to setup the ECU chip to the mods. They must be magicians to know what each & every mod does exactly. Is there a fleet of Rx7's on a dyno in their backyard with a huge pile of every mod combination possible? Have they worked with rotaries or just treating it like a 'boinger ecu tune'?

I vaguely remember someone comparing the gforce and mdrace. They said that the checksum was the same and that the chips were identical.
I also remember that mdrace had several (NA) different chips. But, the only difference was when the revlimiter kicked in. I don't recall multiple T2 chips.
Also, mdrace chips were advertised to work with stock cars and preferably modified cars.

I am not anti-ECU chip companies. I just wouldn't be surprised if all the 'ECU code' were the same.

From what I recall from gforce/mdrace......
For turbos, the chip eliminated the need for the FCD, added some fuel, and if needed, played with the timing/boost.....
For the NA's, the chip adjusted the rev limiter, advanced the timing(since they were tuned for 87 octane) and adjusted the fuel maps.

If someone new with the Techtom eliminated the need for the S5 OMP/MOP...., then I might believe that they were doing R&D. Otherwise, I would think that they were just reselling someone else's R&D.

It is too bad that mdrace is difficult to get a hold of and that gforce is closed. Why doesn't someone offer to buy the mdrace ecu tuning business? How about a group member/club buy? Where did all the gforce knowledge/employees go? If mdrace was too busy, he could just hire someone to do the work, answer the emails, and update the missing website.

Nope... Just got it back together today after being up on stands in the garage for the last 4 weeks. I sold the car to "TurboDan" this evening and I'm back to a 2 car family.

It's got quite a few issues, but overall its pretty solid and a good bang for the buck daily-driver. Dan will probably take it to the track...

I'll eventually get it to the track but Matt's right, there are a few things I will have to take care of first. shifter bushings

I'm curious as to the difference in the ecu's also so the next time somebody host's a dyno day I'll be there.

Don't be messing with my custom shifter bushings...
