E-Fan project

I finally received and installed an efan I bought on Ebay. It's out of a Lincoln Cont...according to the seller. It fit my radiator perfectly. The radiator in my '91 vert is a factory type replacement that I bought at a local radiator shop...I know these are readily available as I bought one once before from Autozone for another 7 a few years ago. Anyway, this pretty much went as planned and the new fan works great! Pulls MASSIVE air through the radiator and my A/C has never been cooler...and this in central FL in the summer. Seller claimed that the fan pulls up to 4000 cfm.

One thing though...its an AMP eater. So a stock FC alt isn't going to get it.

Here's a link to the ebay page

Here's some pics.

I'll be happy to answer any questions.

Too bad the shroud blocks 20% of the radiator when the fan is not in use. I still say you'll never get a better fit then the Fiero/GM/Pontiac 6000 fan.

the shroud is the reason I bought this fan. I just had a Zirgo fan on there before without any kind of a shroud. Great on the highway, not great sitting in Orlando fu@kin traffic in the summer. The factory shroud covered as much. I understand your point and you're right...when the car is moving. But, I think the shroud is necessary when the car is sitting still.

I had a 17in volvo fan made by boch. Had to take it off b/c the alt could not keep up at night. Would end up with a dead battery when you got to where you were going. As well it took alot of cuting and fabing to fit it.

I have to say a good e-fan is the only way. Like a good flex light with the shroud that has rubber around it to protect the cooling fins and Tstat built in.

I haven't had any charging problems, but I do have a FD alt, with the stock alt, I'm sure there would be issues.

Pretty pointless at highway speeds as the fan is not even needed above 50 MPH (and if really wired correctly wouldn't be on anyway at highway speeds).

So in other words your old zirgo fan sucked and was wired wrong, and should not have been used.

So this being brought up... well can't help but make me wonder if this thread will be any use, as if you didn't understand the way the cooling system works, I don't know how much I can trust your recommendation of some other car ebay fan.

No, the old fan did not run on the highway. Only when the AC was on. And yes, that is the correct way. The old fan was simply not enough and did not have any shroud, so in traffic it could not keep the car quite cool enough. I did not have a problem with the car being cool while it was moving...only sitting in traffic.

I know electronics, and the old fan and the new are wired correctly. This fan comes on and goes off as it should, and the thermostat switch is working correctly.

The GM/Pontiac 6000/Fiero fan also has a shroud, but only around the fan itself. It doesn't extend out onto the radiator and block it. I found that a larger shroud that concentrated all airflow through the small fan opening would make the car run hot on the highway/track. If you look at the stock shroud, to concentrates all the airflow through a much larger opening, and doesn't obstruct the rad.

The fan opening is 17.5" The shroud does not overlap the radiator, it only covers the grill portion of the radiator. I drive 120 miles round trip, each day, 5 days a weeks from Melbourne FL to Orlando. I know my car intimately. If there was any problem on the highway, I'd notice it immediately. I keep a close eye on all the guages and have not had any increases in the temps, actually the opposite. Sitting in traffic, the car and the AC are dramatically cooler.
