i'd look for something that's not up to stock that would be more noticable at high rpm. maybe take a look at your electrical system or your fuel filter. how well does your car run? mine idles a little rougher if i leave my one working 5th port open all the time.
oh yeah and screw carbs, fuel injectioners with an s-afc should work just as good as any carb unless you have some ungodly modded 6 second freak show of an rx-7.

you think going to carb is going to have more gains than going to a high performance efi setup?
this:
combined with this:
is the foundation of something better than any carb setup you can shake a stick at.
DragSport magazine tried this setup, after carb, on a 6 port.
FYI, with that EFI setup, the car put down 225RWHP, in NA form, street ported.

and i do have new factory plugs in it as well... coil packs?? ?... or even the dyno could be out??? i have no idea.....
but anyways... way earlier i asked if id be able to take a 2k1 lude... my buds... that is modded... and heres the result...
i had him off the launch and through first and until high rpm in second he started creeping on me and by the time high 3rd rolled around i was at his rear bumper...
not bad for a 141 hp rx7 eh??

VDI= variable dynamic intake
I agree that something is not right. Your car should be making considerably more power, Id say upwards of 160rwhp. The car should still be making more power after 5krpm, not leveling off like that. So I agree with Icemark, make certain that the VDI is operating normally..

Variable Dynamic Intake.
do this: take that little pressure hose off of your VDI actuator. (right in the middle of the intake runners, drivers side upper intake)
hook about 5-7 lbs of pressure up to that actuator and see/listen for any movement. ALSO the solenoid that tells the actuator to open the VDI could be broken
i also thought my VDI actuator was dead, but it ended up being fine and the 6pi was what was not functioning. i hear that the VDI system is much more reliable than the 6pi-(your 5th and 6th aux ports) just some food for thought. you could always wire your 5th and 6th ports open (EDIT i guess you already took care of that) and wire your VDI open just to see if does anything highend temporarily...
