Dumbest question you'll read today.

Alright I've searched and searched and searched. However, where the hell can I put my mechanical Autometer coolant sending unit? Where do I thread it in at? Lol I've heard "tap here, tap there, use the stock one"

Uuugghhh

I run a full standalone. And have the Haltech reading its info from what I presume the stock ecu did.

Can I put one here?

I feel really dumb asking this. Especially with all the other mods I've done to the car..

Someone help!

Also I've heard of not running a thermostat. This car doesn't get daily driven, when I do drive it I'm usually at an auto-x, drift day or just beating frat boys in there mustangs in campus.

Thoughts?

I've had a shop drill a new hole and tap mine before in my old na for a mechanical gauge , there is a chance it could crack, mine came out fine.

Not saying for sure but that spot is on the rad side of the thermostat , I always thought that it should go in the front side of the water pump down from where your finger is in the hot zone . Just saying that's all. Gerald m.

yes you can put it there.
Weld the adapter that comes with the gauge to space it out, the mechanical sender is a bit deep

I put my electric sender there so there is no reason why you can't put a mechanical one there.
They do have adapters too,in brass that you can get that can move the sender away from the Thermo.
By the way it will only read "true" once the thermostat is open.

(bottom driver side corner of the front iron...)

It's before the thermostat, has readings identical to the stock water temp sending unit location and is out of the way...helps if you don't have power steering/AC.

Put it in the radiator hose with adapter from Prosport Gauges 1.5" 38mm.

The mechanical adapter is much deeper, if you buy the gauge new it will come with an adapter which spaces it out just right , i went through this already it wont work if you just put it right in there and the adapter welded gives you nice thread as well

I don't recommend the hose adapter or the upper thermostat housing. Coolant doesn't begin to circulate in those areas until the thermostat is open, which will give inaccurate readings until then.

The front iron or the stock ecu sensor location are acceptable.

Housing isnt a terrible place, the readings mirror the stock gauge
Yes there are better places but they are also more involved

I had it there for like 10 years now its in the wp housing

What about in this spot? Stock sender by the oil filter housing. I'm using a Racing Beat adapter housing, and have oil pressure and temps running from that. So I could just run this along next to them. Super simple?

Also, my mistake, I'm running a short sweep temp gauge from auto meter. Dunno why I said mechanical.

I noticed when I redone my #2 engine that the a pencil type block heater was in the hole close to the bottom of the picture goes straight in for a fair length would probably be a good place also lots of room there .

its close enough that you can thread a tapered NTP into there with some teflon tape and be ok. thats what i did. but i was super careful.

The difference is one thread per inch and like SirCygnus, I just threaded it in anyway.
No teflon tape necessary in my case.

My thinking was that the taper would jam before the thread misalignment mattered.

Don't be alarmed by that saying it is an RX-8 adapter, I am sure with all the coolant lines on your FC that with minimal modification that doesn't involve any drilling or compromising your engine that you will be able to make this work.

Time because a buddy wanted the part for his 8. He's yet to get back with me on it. So i guess I'll be using it! Lol

So long as the hose is the same size, which it may not be.
