Dual vs Single Exhaust, advantages and Dis...which one!?
Ok, I have a 88T2-intake, Downpipe, FCD, Fuel pump, et etc, and I want to change out the exhaust I bought it with(generic custom), I was thinking RB Full exhaust, but then I've been seeing the N1 muffler with 3' custom piping, and like that set up, whats the advans and disadvans of single versus dual?

Single will make more power from the lacking collection point. Single will also be twice as loud and probably annoy the hell out of you. I have heard the N1 DUAL EXIT and it IS LOUD. I can't even contemplate what only one of those rice cans can sound like.
The RB setup is going to be much quieter than the Ni's but it MAY or MAY NOT make as much power for your car. IMO it sounds better and looks better than the APEXi one. The RB will weigh a bit more since you have an extra muffler and a y-pipe.
I personally don't like a single exit exhaust on an FC because you loose the balaced look it has stock.

PS-you decide.

My goals are all Go, no show at all, the more discreet the better, I heard the RB and it sounds good, but I want to make the most power possible, emmisions is not an issue but I do not want it to be too loud. Thanks for the input! Right now my setup is loud as hell at WOT 2'1/2 inch piping from cat and no name mufflers.

This is the setup I was considering (both quiet, lightweight and good looks):
RB presilencer & driver side RB muffler
custom mandrel bends to connect it all
there you got all the quieting components of the RB system but the single outlet weight savings

...94% correct.
All go, huh? Straight (yes it can almost be perfectly straight from the header) 2.5" tubing from the header to the drvr's side exit. No cat, no resonator, no muffler.

There is a huge thread on this. I started it just to ask about looks, and all the guru's went buck wild and debated single vs. dual to the death....

If you're only concerned about the "go" then why are you concerned about the noise?
I believe single is the way to go. Powerwise, dual vs. single, debatable but one thing for sure, single is lighter.
Get the JIC Spec 90 if you want all out performance, but judging from the way you care about the noise, maybe just get the RB full, quiet, and good power.
An all-out custom with a quiet muffler might be workable too, who knows which universal type mufflers are both quiet AND freeflowing, or is that not possible?

Project...and everyone else...freeflowing and quiet are possible in combination. A straight through can muffler controls noise by the size and volume of the can. A straight-through baffle-less muffler with a very large can will control the noise adequately without loss of power...however, it would have to be a very large can in order to quiet the exhaust down to stock Db levels...

The key on a turbo car is no backpressure after the turbo. Just get the air out as fast as you can however you can. Anyone saying that a single exit or dual exit exhaust on a turbo car can make more power than the other is full of crap. Does a single or dual exit make more power on a turbo car? The answer is yes and no! It depends on how you design it. As long as it flows well it doesn't matter. Some people care for the original asthetics of the car with the dual mufflers. I personally like the dual look. Others say that they like the single because there is half the piping there and it is lighter. One point to them. It all comes down to personal taste. One advantage that 2 mufflers can have over one is the fact that you have twice the muffling area available to you. Two mufflers with a 2 1/4" straight through design will flow more and quiet better than one muffler that is 3" and straight through. If you don't need the extra flow though there is no performance advantage and then it simply comes down to noise and personal taste. Just remember that on a turbo car the best exhaust is no exhaust.

Like it has been stated. A tuned collected exhaust WILL have better PEAK HP on an N/a (Turbo just get 3" or larger) BUT that is INSIDE of its range. The collected guys SHOULD admit that outside of their SPECIFIC RPM range they will make LESS power than an uncolected. Which means your limiting yourself to a certain RPM region. For a TRUE RACE CAR that is just dandy. On a street car that makes you go through hell if your exhaust is tuned say for 6500 or 7500rpms.
And yes the single(collected too) is louded and WILL DRONE your ears till you bleed unless you USE QUALITY MUFFLERS(meaning nothing like magnaflow, N1's, GT, or cork sport style cans) The best over all would probably ge gredy, HKS, and Racing beat toping the list for QUIET.
