Dropped something in tranny
Tonight I was installing my new corksport short shifter, and rx8 shift ****. As I was taking out all the stock pieces, when I got to the paper thin washer at the very bottom I picked it out and apparently there was 2 pieces in a 180 degree size. So being clumsy and awkward in pulling it out, I dropped 1 half into the tranny hole. I tried to grab it but I think I pushed it far to the side and now I can't get it. Am I screwed, another words will this f up my tranny? I feel like an idiot right now.

You dropped it into the extension housing? If it's against the side wall, it probably won't go anywhere. That section doesn't connect to anything else on the transmission. If it did manage to work itself in the way of the shifter, it would likely get crushed anyhow.
Still, if you want to get it out of there for peace of mind, you can remove the side panel (4 bolts). I attached the pic from the FSM. Of course, it might be impossible to reach them with the tranny in the car.

I'm pretty sure it went off to the extension housing so I think I'm just sweating it. As soon as I seen that washer go in I thought, get stuck in gears and seize everything up. Then I thought for another second and figured the washer is probly so paper thin it probly won't do ****. If anything it would probly shatter into small bits and not be a problem.
So I guess I'm good then. Thanks guys, I almost had a heart attack at the age of 20.
That shifter area is completely separate from the transmission proper, so nothing will get into the gears/shafts.
