drop kit?

Hey guys i got an 89 gxl and i want to know what's the best drop kit out there and where to get it. I really don't want 2 drop it too low. Maybe about an inch or inch and a half. Someone told me racing beat but i want to know about any others.

By drop kit do you mean lowering? Do you want springs only(?) or do you want an entire setup? Eibach makes lowering springs for the FC... Not sure about the ride quality though... If you only want the car to be lower ( and arent looking for any performance gains..) then just cut your springs...

dont cut your springs, that will achieve what you are looking for, but the springs wont seat right and will almost definately screw up the side to side loading. Plus, with a lower car you want a higher spring rate so you dont bottom out over all types of bumps, and cutting springs wont get you that

It will if you do it right... compress them, heat them, and cut them. Although, it doesnt improve anything, if you do it right, you will have a lower car. If you do it right, it shouldnt really affect the spring rate. (people usually mess up when they heat the springs too much, causing the spring rate to go to crap.) Its best to try and cut the springs dependant on the spring rate you want, not the ride height. Meaning, if you want a specific height, it might be alot less confusing to just buy some springs for a couple hundred dollars. If you have never cut springs before and dont know what you are doing, you better cut in really small increments (maybe about 1/8-1/4 turn at a time) testing between cuts, until you get the ride you desire... It takes a bit of measuring and a brain, but if you arent patient you will just reduce your ride quality.

Coilovers FTW... I've had MANY close calls with my bumper, and I've got a stock suspension, and stock bumper. I don't see how people avoid bottoming out with dropped cars. With coilovers you can give it any height you want, but not while sacrificing handling.

Now, if it's a race car, that's something completely differen't.

Exactly, but I think he wants it only for the cosmetic reasons (looks.) So, he probably wouldnt be willing to fit the bill for some coilovers.

This is my 89GXL with Tanabe GF210 springs and KYB AGX shocks and 15" vert wheels. It's supposed to lower the car 1.5"

omg dont listen to this guy, that is some ghetto sh*! this is a rx7 a sports car not a damn honda civic lol even civic people know better, cuting or heating is no upgrade that is a down grade, it will make your ride quality real shitty cause a bunch of alignment problems, well the Tanabe GF210 springs are the **** I highly suggest them they will lower about 1 inch and a half very good choice, but if you lower the car you stock struts will blow out a lot easier now so you really need to get performance struts along with them like tokico or KYB

I don't think any one vendor offers a complete "kit".

You need to get a rear camber adjust bar.
Search for vendors offering them.
When dropping the suspension, even mild drops, the rear camber goes way negative.
Don't do this unless you like replacing tires every few months due to uneven wear.

Springs is a matter of taste and budget.

Are you stupid? Did you actually read any of the posts that I made? I asked him "what do you want?" because when I read his question, I got from it "how can I lower my car to make it look kewler!" Not trying to take anything away from anyone, but not every one needs an expensive suspension setup. With that said, I did also say that different companies offer lowering springs such as Eibach (and if you want I can add a couple more like tein, ground control, spring tech, and the list goes on.) With that in mind, with all of the companies that offer low price springs, he still posted this question making me think that those "low prices" might be too expensive for him. So, I simply said if he doesnt want to purchase any, he can cut them because he more than likely only wants the looks. Secondly, if you cut the springs right, it will not be a downgrade because if he knows what he is doing he can cut the springs w/o loosing the spring rate. Its only those morons who just slap a friggin torch on their car, that wonders why it handles like **** after the fact. I remember back when I was in high school and I cut the springs on my 86 base. I did it right, and my ride didnt feel bouncy or shitty. If you half *** things then you are bound to have a problem. Otherwise, just use your mind.

Its funny, you guys are mentioning $1K+ setups... I just figured that if he's asking about this, then he cant take that route....

Secondly, I personally like coilovers. I am running the tein flex coilovers as of now and I like them because they are stiff, but they are still comfortable for the street.

Get some racing beat, tanabe, or other springs and some good shocks, I would say KYB AGX - good price and very adjustable... unless you are doing pro racing don't waste your money on coil overs.

If you want a decent stance with a nice ride and arent looking for alot of performance i would suggest getting racing beat with some newer or new kyb gr-2 struts. I have that setup and it stiffened up the car a little but still has a pretty smooth ride. Although I am moving up to Tien Flex's in a few days. Try the racing beat ones they are fairly close to stock ride quality , with a lower stance,, ill see if i can post a pic of my setup

i just bought a set of tein S-tech's

they lower the car 1.0" F & R

i have staggered 18's and don't want to rub, but if i had stock 15" or 16" wheels i would get the rsr race springs.

it all depends on what wheels you have(or are going to get)

Don't bother with the GR-2's.
They are basically OEM replacements.
I doubt they are stiffer than stock.

Go with the Tokico non-adjustables for ~$250 shipped for better performance.

haha bad *** Spirit RX-7.
Do you have the Front Suspension Lowering Kit from Racing Beat? Because your front end sits lower than mine and Tanabe claims a 1.5" drop as apposed to a 1.3" drop.
Maybe it's just the shadow on the top of my front tire making it look like it sits higher than it does.
