My father and I are taking the trip from NY to Tennesee on thursday to pick up the car from Kevin. Then driving it back to break in the engine. Im pretty damn excited, and from what I hear it sounds like Kevin has done a really amazing job with the car. Ill let everyone know how it goes

SO Thursday then? cool.

Amazing? I wouldnt say that. IT runs about like it should, to be near stock (except SP, intake and exhaust). IT's actually pretty weak right now, as all rebuilds are, seeing as how you cant rev it up and use any of the powerband. That, and your brakes are crap ***. Tell your dad I am satisfied with it now, I got it running a bit cooler, by changing the fan. Just like the radiator, I couldnt physically find a defect, but teh car wouldnt stay cool as I liked with it.

we are leaving thursday night, should be there by friday morning. I know the brakes were shitty, they are all getting replaced anyways. So the fan and radiator have both been replaced? He told me that you said it was running really hot and that you put a different water pump in it. I didn't know if it had cooled back down to normal or if more **** needed to be replaced.

Upon first start, it immediately went warm, I shut it down at 2/3. At this point, the engine as very hot to the touch, but the radiator adn upper hose were cold. I removed the thermostat, and tried again. This time, the upper hose and radiator inlet got hot, but the radiator did not, and was cold to the touch, while the rest was still very hot (gauge at 2/3 again). I changed the radiator with an all-metal aftermarket replacement (used, low miles) which allowed the car to stay cool. I then drove it, but at highway speeds it heated up, from lack of thermostat to control water flow. At this time I tested several thermostats and put in the one that opened the quickest/farthest. The car then stayed between 1/3 and 1/2, closer to 1/2, sometimes a hair above when the revs were up. I changed the water pump with a nearly new one, but your old one didnt appear bad. I changed the fan with another one and the problem seems to have went away, the car now stays between 1/3 and 1/2, usually right at 1/3, which is perfect. IT has about 50 miles on it at this time, I will be driving it a bit this week as well.

alright, sounds good. The thermostat had recently been changed right before the engine went, and im not sure if they pulled it from another car or where they ordered it from. The engine was running a little hot before they did that and the new thermostat seemed to bring it down a little bit. who knows. Thanks for putting so much time into it, I appreciate it a ton.

FYI, the motor did have a ruptured rear iron water jacket, so it had been slowly eating coolant and would have gotten worse had it not blown apex seals anyway. I am not charging for the rear iron replacement, rotor or housing, or the fan or water pump, because the s4 NA stuff is so common. I did charge you for the radiator and labor of re-reinstalling it, and fooling with your e-brake, which now does not stick (the car can be pushed by hand when the brake is released now, as opposed to having to be towed by a 4WD to persuade it to move)

ha, yeah that e-brake had some serious issues. It took forever to drive that thing up onto a trailer with a blown motor and a sticking e-brake. Thanks for all of the other parts, im sure my father will be quite pleased. See ya Friday.

one last thing I forgot...did you end up getting to that beeping sound in the car? I was pretty sure that it had to do with the steering wheel, and i thought it was the power steering warning sensor or whatever. I just never found a way to fix it.

Yeah, I "fixed" the p/s. I tried another ps pump, to no avail. I tried 2 other PS computers, to no avail. After consulting the FSM with the code it was bitching about, it said there was a bad wire/connection resulting in the PS ecu not seeing an rpm input while recieving a speed input. IN the FSM, it listed the effect on teh PS as "normal". Seeing this, I decided to remove the friggen beeper from the PS computer, since the failure did not cause any problems with operation of PS both in driving the car, and in teh FSM. SO, it works normally, and doesnt beep, but in a round-about way.
