drivebelt question

is it normal to be able to move your belts with your bare hands? i ask because i was trying to take off the fan...haynes says keep belts on so the water pump pulley doesnt spin. i tried and the belts just keep spinning...haynes always makes it look so easy.

when i removed the belted fan i took 2 10 mm box ends and used one to hold the pulley still and the other to break the bolts loose then when it came down to the last one i put a flat head inbetween 2 of the studs to hold it from moving while breaking the last one loose

Ive been able to take most off by simply gripping the pulley with my hand and cracking the nuts loose...

But a screwdriver to jamb it would work if req'd

Most the of the haynes manuals dissasembly instructions are usually far to general for me......the torque specs are nice though.
