Downshift to first?

im just looking at the fact that he has his AUX ports wired OPEN. no wonder you lost, no low end torque at all. because when i slam on the gas at second in 4500 or 5500 i start pulling. must be my LOWWWW mileage. who knows or my not wired open aux ports when its not really necessary

The right way would be to rev the engine, with the clutch pushed in, to about where it would be at in first gear at 20mph and then EASE the shifter into 1st. You should feel it kinda "suck" it into gear when you get it right. Done properly, it'll be smooth as silk.
it won't "suck" into the gear without double clutching.

When I get really on it i can go to 40 in first but I didnt wan't to hurt anything by downshifting into like 4500-5500rpm(not sure the actual ammount).
How long have you been driving stick??
It sounds like you might be a newbie!!!
If you have to ask such a question than obviously you don't pay attention to your car or even notice your top speed in each gear.
I know exactly what gear to hit for max. efficiency just by glancing at my current speed. Theres no science to it. Just learn what your car can do man.
Obviously rev matching is key when down shifting at any speed wether driving regularly or racing.
Come on people stop filling the forum with such nonsense threads!!!!
If you can't drive around the block and figure this one out for yourself then you shouldn't be trying to race with anyone. Most likely you will cause an accident. I can just imagine this guy on the highway about to drop gear on someone when he decides to pick up a cell fone and ask someone which gear should he down it in to!!!

unless you're ABSOLUTELY SURE your synchros can handle that and you have a lot of experience in rev matching, i wouldnt do it. a stripped first gear synchro isnt worth humiliating a hondahead. unless his girlfriend is in the car...id spend money on new synchros for that one

Um, I swear there was a thread like this a couple weeks ago where it was stated that 1st gear does not have a synchro because it is..... first gear... and that you basically could only(with ease) shift into 1st at like under 10 mph.
I've had 2 TII trannys and each one Aspec and Jspec would only shift into 1st easily at under 10ish mph. Do NA trannys have 1st gear synchros?

I have 3 1st gens, had a GTU, and still own a T2 that is getting a motor swap.
I have been able to drop gear on all of them from 20-30mph. If you can't then either you don't know what Rev matching is or there is something wrong with your tranny I believe.
I don't understand why this is even a thread.....LOL
I'm out......peace

I dont understand you guys.... Do you think that rx7's are the fastest cars on planet? I been dealing with rotary's a lil over 8 years and I love them to death. But reality is, that right now, almost anyone is making power. That lil ricer kid could have a swap done or maybe not, but there are 100000's of hondas/acuras with swaps and other fukin upgrades... I got my *** handed to by a civic hatch with 565whp. And that same hatch took an infamous lexus is300. So get off that cloud that rx7's are the fastest cars, cus honestly. If your not turbo/nos on a fc then your slow (unless its gutted the **** out). You need an fb if your going n/a.

To double clutch, just push the clutch in, take the car out a gear, let the clutch back out with the shifter in nuetrol, then rev match the engine to aprox. the rpm you'll get too(if your going 25, just give the gas a nice hard jab up to 5-6 grand), then push the clutch back in, and put it in first while the rpms are still up. Its also good to do that whenever downshifting to any gear because it will save your syncros.
But anyway, are you surprised a honda pulled on you? No offence, but a n/a fc isn't exactly a drag racer.

I'm going to take the high road here and advise this young lad to take it to the track. Streets are not for racing and the world isn't going to care if you squash a Honda. I mean, seriously. If you want to race... first, take some lessons at a good driving school. Then take it to the track where you won't kill my family members when you lose control of your Neon.
And about the first gear thing... Yes, you can downshift into first gear if you double clutch/rev match. However, you're eventually going to break something if you don't know what you're doing. Save it for your friend's car... it will be much cheaper. haha

Wow theres a lot of criticism here, I know how to downshift and I know how to drive a stick and what not, I drive my 7 about once a month atm because of weather so I dont really know how the car reacts, I just wasnt sure if a downshift into that high of an rpm and that low of a gear would hurt anything.

I personally never downshift to first gear unless I'm stopped. I think racing in the streets is a really bad idea. I think the only racing i do in the streets is the race to the 40 mph speedlimit after it turns green. Oh, and running the mountain passes in the night and wee hours of the morning.
