How do I prepare for EMS install?

I am getting a Microtech LTx8 within the next few weeks. Next month I will start the install process.

I just wanted to get some pointers of what should be done with the factory wires. The ecu, harness, and coils will go.

Can someone explain what has to be done to get things like the fuel pump, stock guages, and whatever else to continue working??

Also I would like a quick way to remove the harness. I was thinking of just cutting it out since its so bad, I wont sell it to anyone.

Microtech LTx8 is complete standalone with ignition drivers. It runs on all of the stock sensors minus the afm, coils, and boost sensor. It has a built in 2.5 bar map sensor good to about 22 psi.

There should be a pretty extensive manual that comes with it. Im guessing that your going to elimenate the entire factory engine harness but i wouldnt take it out now. If it was me and i could take the car off the road for a few days i would take off the UIM and DC to make it easyer to get to the entire harness, and i would pull the dash so i could wire everything properly though the firewall.

As for cutting the harness, if you do it the way i said you would beable to just unplug everything on the harness and sell it OR keep it encase you have problems with the standalone or want to sell the car without your ems you can swap it back in. I wouldnt cut it if possible

Re: How do I prepare for EMS install?

First and foremost, don't just go ripping wires and circuitboards out of your car like some people. Since you asked this question, it sounds like you are off to a good start. Go through the wiring diagrams in the last chapeter of the factory service manual. Start with the overall harness diagrams (ie Front Harness, Engine Harness, Emissions Harness, etc.) that are strangely listed last, and then move to specific diagrams as needed. If you can't figure out whether or not you need to keep a component, then just leave it in place, as this will not hurt anything except for adding a minimal amount of dead weight to your car. After the car is running well with the LTX8, then you can try disconnecting certain components to see if anything bad is going to happen if you remove them. One thing you can definitely do now is remove the stock air box and AFM, and install your own intake pipe and air filter. You may also want to use the factory service manual to check all of your stock sensors to make sure that they work, as this will help eliminate a lot of potential frustrating bugs when you try to get that LTX8 working.

Ask advice from others who have put an LTX or MTX computer into their FC. Don't hesitate to ask your Microtech dealer about technical questions, as this is a privilege that you paid for when buying the unit.

The stock gauges will still work just fine. The LTX8 should come with instructions telling you how to wire up the tachometer and fuel pump lead.

I would also reccomend reading over all the Haltech or Wolf install FAQ's you can find. The install on the microtech should be similar so atleast you can get an idea of what to do.
