door/key locks a serious problem in 7's?
in the 2nd gen faq for FCs @ rx7forums.com they have
"How can I fix my door locks?
I got tired of this one and made a site myself:
http://66.69.208.196/rx7 "
the site isn't up anymore. What happened to my key cylinders is the plastic part that covers the key hole broke apart and went into the cylinder. I can't unlock the car from the driver's side anymore

Mine is messed up too. The guy I bought it from forgot to tell me this and I broke the only key off in the door, lucky for me a very talented guy at ACE was able to make a new one off the broke key, saved my butt.

You guys do know that the Mazda dealer can recut you a key with just your VIN, right...
Oh, and lock flappers is your problem, it's minor compared to breaking the door handle or the internal spring on the latch.

The site should be up right now. The server was probably down. As for the plastic part, you can use the guide to see where all the screws are to take the interior panel off, then you'll have to remove the cylinder and then you are faced with a couple options:
1. buy a new one from mazda
2. take it apart or see if you can pull the little flapper out
3. switch it with the one from the passenger side.

Taking it apart is fairly simple. My plastic part broke off as well. Really, most 2nd gen locks are pretty worn out by now and will open with many different keys. If you are really stuck, you can carefully spray strong carb cleaner into the lock which will dissolve the broken plastic piece.

Depends on what the problem is...Will the key insert and turn? If so, then the lock is probably OK and it may be the little spring on the latch. Really, the only way is to take the door panel off from the inside (you won't be able to get the one remaining screw at the front top corner though) and examine the mechanism inside. The problem should be fairly obvious once you open the door up as the lock system is straightforward.

how about a problem with the ignition. its really weird actually since it just happened the other day. my brother started my car..and the key just came out, no effort, just pull. the engine didn't go off or anything, the key just came out. i tried it and the same thing. something in the ignition that keeps the key locked in broken? might be dangerous? i guess i've been driving it like that since i got my car but i never knew it was like that. any fixes? anyone else have same experience.
