don't get mad, just got some questions on buying 2nd gen
okay, first off, WHERE THE HELL IS THE SEARCH FUNCTION? anyways, on to my questions. now try not to get mad at me. i know on my usual board (where i'm, believe it or not, a mod), we sometimes get 'mad' when some newbie asks the same question that's already been answered, but if you could just at least forward me to threads with the answers to these questions:
1. i'm looking into buying a 2nd gen. i know the 2nd gens consist of one major revision, making two SERIES within the generation (i think). i'm looking at getting an N/A 89-91, but may have to settle for the earlier 86-88. anyways, what should i be wary of when looking at any N/A 2nd gen (i know that different models may also have different problems).
2. i haven't got a straight answer to this yet: how hard is it to drop in a 2nd gen turbo engine (i.e from a turbo II) into a 2nd gen N/A chassis, compared to the similar N/A drop.
well that's about it, hope you guys can help (without getting mad)...

people have done the T2 swap before, and people have Turbo'd their N/A motors. i suggest neither. if you want a turbo 7, buy the T2 the one that came with a turbo on it. im sure many here will argue with me, but i still think its not worth the amount of time and effort and money required to pull of the swap.

i just get this when i try to search:
Warning: Failed opening './admin/badwords.php' for inclusion (include_path='') in /var/www/html/rx7club/forum/search.php on line 239
anyways, does anyone have any links to a 13B turbo or 13b-rew into an N/A FC chassis swap? i'm just wondering what makes the swap so hard?

the turbo anything into an N/A car is difficult because the motors are very different. wiring harness, intake manifolds, ECU, are all different and need to be swapped to make it work. also, btween N/A and T2 the drivetrain is different as well. as far as the 13bREW into a N/A 2nd gen, its technicaly not that much different than a S5 turbo engine and the super complicated vacuum system and wiring harness make the swap very difficult. if its been done, ive never seen it before. the 13bt swap has been done, i have no links to show this swap but i advise against it. its just not worth it when there are plenty of actual turbo 2nd gens available for cheap.

My 2 cents:
Why put a 3rd gen twin screw in an n/a?
Most guys drop to a single turbo setup on the gen 3s to get more power... Lots of power... Lots of lag.
I have a 87 n/a SE. I love it. It has everything I want and enough power potential to keep me happy. The T2s, when matched to my early apex heavy footed driving, get too loose for me. If you want the power for freeway fun and don't want to attack the S curves, get the T2. If you want a driving car in the style of all the old Ferraris and Alfas, get an n/a.

The TII-NA swap isn't so much difficult as it is, well, stupid. A TII currently sells for only $500-1000 more than an NA of the same year and condition. It's just not worth the trouble or money to convert the NA unless you want a convertible, or you already have gobs of money in your NA and don't want to take a loss selling it. Also note that the TII and NA have the same insurance rate with most insurance companies, so you are not going to save any money with the NA-TII conversion like you may with other sportscars.
There is a "sticky" on an NA-TII conversion at the top of this 2Gen Forum. Here is the link:

BTW, the 13B-REW would be much more difficult because the engine mounts are different.

hmm, N/A less fun than T2? odd, i feel just the oposite. when i went looking for a 7 i drove a few N/As and was bored. it felt exactly like my old 944, but slightly tighter. the first T2 i drove i fell in love with. was a blast to be behind the wheel of. oh well....just personal preferance i guess.

i know what you mean. there are minor things wrong with it. broke antenna, missing dash vent, rust in the upper driver's door, needed tires, sure uses a lot of oil...i think i only have to change the filter every 3 since i put a quart in every other week!!! i've only put a thousand on it so far and haven't really had any problems. mileage is about 15 or so to the gallon. gonna take it to the strip in a few weeks. well, got a little of topic.

evil aviator - i know what you're saying, but the thing is
1) i rarely find turbo FCs around here
2) there are, however, plenty of cheap, N/A FCs with non-functional engines, so that's why i was asking

okay, well screw anything to do with turbo, i can't wait that long. unless a good condition (i.e working) s5 TII comes along (and i can afford it), i'm going for just a nice N/A with an LSD. i'm probably have less problems with them too...now just have to see if i'll wait for an s5 or just rape the next s4 i see...hmmm...
