does the stock hood stiffen the chassis???
i was thinking this morning. there are 3 mounting points of a stock hood and some are made of aluminum or steel. you guys think that this adds stiffness to the chassis? was just thinking what happens the structure of the car when you add a carbon fiber hood.
has anyone noticed any change in the structural integrity or the vehicle?

The hood could add stiffness in the same way a shock tower brace does, but I don't think the hood does or would even be strong enough to. If it was that important, they would be able to make a carbon hood many times stiffer in that direction than any steel or aluminum sheet metal hood. I don't think you will notice any difference at all.

Doesn't matter how stiff the hood is - it could be a foot thick billet of titanium and it wouldn't make a difference because it's not attached rigidly. It's attached by flimsy hinges at the rear, and by a loose latch at the front. It makes no contribution to chassis rigidity at all.

the tower brace connects the 2 shock mounts, and the hood connects what ? nothing basically

Theoretically, with the proper design of the hood, hinge, and rest of chassis; the hood could limit the inward flex of the top of the fender/shock tower area. I do not believe that the RX7 has any of these design features. In fact, off the top of my head I can't think of any cars that would have this kind of design but, my point was that if someone felt they wanted that design, it is possible.

Read what I posted... it COULD!!! I didn't say it did, in fact, I said to the contrary.
