Does this sound like bad coils?

My car's been sluggish when I get into boost, and lately it's been a little hard to start. I did a compression test and everything is fine as far as that goes. I pulled the plugs and checked for spark. L2 and T2 are the only ones showing spark. This got me thinking, since a few times, the car would start up and sound like it's only on one rotor. A few seconds later, it would sound like the other rotor would catch and all would be fine again. Is it safe to assume that the coils are going bad? Also, I checked prices on coils on Mazdatrix's website, and it seems that they are the same part for 86-92. Is this right, or are TII's different from NA's? Thanks.

I'll get back to you if I can verify this is the problem.

This is very odd... L1 & L2 fire at the same time from 1 coil. You should be getting spark on L1 if you see spark on L2. Trailing coils are 2 distinct coils and fire at different times.

Turbonut.....Dittos to what Turbonut said. The coils are good. Do not waste your money. Probably a timing light issue.

The only other way I can see one lead plug firing and the other not, is for the other plug wire leaking to ground. You'd see and hear a large crackling in that case. Not likely. Timing lite issue.
