Does anyone build the rx7 turbo II trannys?

I'm looking to convert a mitsu 4g63t based car of mine (either my 89 colt or my 91 hyundai SCoupe) to RWD. I'm looking for the best tranny for the types of RPMs I'm expecting(around 10.5k). It appears to me the trannys from the rx7's dont have issues with high RPM shifting but I dont know much about these cars. Where do you guys get your built trannys from or do you even have to build them for 700hp +?

idk about 700 hp..
but, for more power my dad takes the gears from the 3rd gen trannys and swaps them into the 2nd gen ones to accomadate for p[ower gains. hes done a few for some pro drifters that are running 500hp out of the little 13b's. The tranny from an rx7 is basically the same as a ford ranger tranny. In fact my dad used to ford ranger tranny manuel as a base for directions.

I need a tranny thats gonna let me shift at 8k with a 700hp car, its for road courses, not so much drag racing. If it was for drag I would just get a 2 speed GM tranny and be done with it. I might just build a dsm tranny myself.... but theres still way more parts you can break when you have AWD. Not to mention having to buy 3 lsd's instead of 1. One lsd for the front, one for the transfer case, one for the rear. AWD isnt so cheap when you break ****. I'd just have a good set of tires and 1 bad *** limited slip in the back. Not to mention, the lack of parasitic loss at higher speeds with just a RWD setup.

Its not for a dsm, I am using a dsm engine but I'm trying to make a RWD road course car.

It should be pretty strong if you get it rebuilt with new synchros and bearings. There are 10 second cars on the stock tranny and rear end. I can't be sure about 700whp though. I think it should be able to handle that kind of rpm, I'm just not sure what the upper limit of its torque capacity is.

The typical rotary engine is only 1.3L and short on torque, and even then the more powerful cars tend to use race-specific transmissions such as those from Jerico, Richmond, Quaife, and Hewland. Guru Motorsports sells an upgraded RX-7 transmission for about $9,500, but it is only advertised for 600hp cars. I am not aware of the few 700hp rotary-powered road race cars using anything other than a Porsche transaxle.

Thanks for the heads up. I didnt realise it was so expensive being an rx-7 enthusiast! I'm just gonna build a FWD dsm tranny myself and build my own chassis(engine and tranny in the back).

Thanks guys, I'll be around.
