Wouldnt that be hard as hell to spool anyways, just because of the weight? Never mind the size... I always thought big rig turbos were built way different than aftermarket performance turbos because they need to withstand those insane temperatures that turbos put up with for 100's of thousands of miles.... So i just thought everything on the turbo was thickened... Especially the propellor blades... So like tons of rotating mass to spool up. Just my 2 cents.

The turbo only costed me $5 plus shipping. I honestly thought I would get a junk turbo in the mail that I would just get to add to all of my other useless junk sitting around, and if not then I got a deal. I got the thing and has no shaft play and really it is in decent shape. I took it to a diesel guy in town, and heres where it gets good, he told me I could bring it in and do 1 of 2 things: either trade him that turbo for something t4 flanged and that is a little smaller, or I could buy a new turbine housing for about $150. So no real amount of money has been sunk into it. Down below is the front mount I am going with. I also figured on like a 1.15 a/r t4 flanged hotside with a little "juice" to help spool time. Also in the backround that is my car all wetsanded and ready for the clear.

I've got one of those too. Mine was in the back of an rx7 parts car I bought. Let me know the part numbers on that exhaust housing if you decide to buy it. Me and a friend are going to try and turbo a big block with it.

Wouldn't an Anti-lag system work on this? I know that they'll burn a conventional turbo up fairly quckily, but like importsown, I thought that desiel truck stuff was made much heavier duty. If that's the case, he could anti-lag it, and then still make boost relatively quickly.... Just an idea

Turbos for automobiles were taken from big rig diesel engines initially.
So, you're thinking about this backwards.

RETed i see how you misunderstood me, but what i meant to say is that aftermarket performance turbos were "lightened" i guess, especially the rotating mass involved, such as the propellor blades. I would imagine that the bearings are probably a better design on the aftermarket automobile side of turbos, but probably not as forgiving or long-lasting as big rig applications.
And by weight, and it being too heavy, was strictly meant for rotating mass. I know that the housings have nothing to do with the spooling.

Yesterday I stopped at a dyno tuner in good ol' Madison and asked the guys if they could either find or order me a smaller turbine side for the turbo. They did nothing but laugh and say what were you thinking, I bet your little rotary could barely spool something with a .80 a/r hotside.....My response you guys are kidding right? They say, "No, we could barely get an MR2 to spool a GT42 with a .84 a/r turbine side let alone a 1.4L rotary." Instead of arguing about why a full or even half bridged 13b could spool something bigger than a .80 a/r (they had no idea what a bridged rotary was) I said "A 1.4L? Thanks you guys have said enough....see ya." Oh yeah they also said when my car is done I could get it tuned from them for $800....Yeah right, I will get right on that. I later stopped at the diesel guys and asked what kind of turbos they had in stock. They had two different kinds with a t4 flange. The first was a schwitzer 3LM, and the second was a holset 3528639. I am going to do some research on both and see which one will be better for my application.
