Hey, i got offered an 88 RX7 GTU(i think thats what he said, my phone was slightly staticy) white with a spoiler and ground effects. It's some speical edition that was supposed to come with power everything but it dosn't have power windows or cruise control. It has 166k miles but it was rebuilt just around last year and he says it is running very strong. Do you guys think $2500 is a good price for it? This guy is a rotary tech if that makes a difference in trusting the guy.

Most rotary mechanics and techs dont know ****. "oh your engine is blown" when your cat has melted.
I dont care about milage on a car honestly. If the engine checked out to be good, the car didnt have a micky mouse paint job to cover up rust and the interior and under the car was good Id get it. Bushings and **** can be replaced.

The 88 GTU got the aero package that the 86-87 sport had, as well as got a LSD and the same heavy duty suspension and brakes as the Sport. It also got the T2 aero mirrors and seats. Unlike the Sport however, the mirrors were power, and the carpet and insulation were upgraded to GXL standards increasing the overall weight.
The 88 GTU was the first model/year with the wing type rear spoiler that a slightly larger version came standard on the S5 cars.
Think of the 88 GTU as the ancestor to the 89-90 GTUs model (note the small "s"). The GTUs grew out of what the Sport and 88 GTU were.
The only options on the 88 GTU was Air conditioning and a sunroof, with cruise control being a dealer installed option on some.
The 88 GTU however should not be confused with the stripy base model 89-90 GTU. The 89-90 GTU came with the small 5 lug brakes and a standard base suspension and no LSD.
