Do VDO gauges suck?

We seem to have a disagreement between experts on the 2nd gen forum.

dcfc3s, and scathcart say that VDO gauges are not accurate.

While Vaughnc and ReTed says they are good.

i remember this tread from a while ago

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...threadid=95190

So what is the verdict here?

Cuz i was about 1 hour from ordering a oil pressure, oil temp, and water temp Vdo cockpit black with sender units until i saw this thread

I've seen a mech VDO boost gauge read 3 psi lower than a newer phantom autometer! I sold all my autometer gauges except nitrous pressure, for some sexy electronic Greddy's

BMW uses (used to use anyway) VDO for all their gauges. That speaks a lot for quality in my book.

porsche uses them too...some older hondas uses VDO too... they do a lot of OEM for various manfucatuers...

also comparing anything to autometer is pretty much worthless... i myself used to say all meters are accurate including autometer, until a friend say, "i think it might be off" the word think just changed my mind about autometer for sure

Remember, Sony makes some killer high-end stuff and they also make stuff that REALLY sucks. The fact a manufacturer's name is on it doesn't immediately mean quality.

I would spend the extra money for some Greddy gauges. Even if the VDO turns out to be accurate, they're kinda cheaply made, the lighting is poor...go with a Greddy.

http://www.german-autowerks.com has the BEST prices on Greddy gauges - they're nuts. There's also a few Greddy gauges on Ebay right now, but I think some of them are overpriced.

Dale (who should have stock in Greddy )
