Do I need a reality check?

Here's the deal. I sold my FC back in July to buy a 99.5 Audi A4 quattro and I love the thing but I do miss my FC. Now this is what I am thinking of doing finding another S5 N/A w/ a blown engine for about 600 bux as close to as nice as the one I had before. That's what I payed for my last one and it was extremely clean the paint flaked but its a 1990 I don't blame it haha. My goal is to have weekend/ track car n/a FC. I don't plan on adding power as I know the n/a's take a lot of money to get not much more power out of lol. I would get it running w/ a short block and lower it on a nice set of springs or coil overs and throw a set of 16-17" rims and tires on it that are ready for the track. In my mind I could do this for about 2000 doing the work myself obviously. Can I still get an S5 for 600? Mine wasn't perfect but it was still in excellent shape inside and out and I have not seen a whole lot in the same condition. My only requirements are that its stick, decent paint, interior is in mostly 1 piece, and everything's there engine and all whether it runs or not. Now what I would prefer it to have is a black interior outside I would like it to be either red, blue, or white and I kind of think I want it to be a GTU again although if I found a GTUs for that money I doubt I would say no lol. So do I need a reality check on the costs here? Or am I being fairly realistic as long as I give my self time to find the right car and the right short block for the right money.

Ok lets, say you have 2k for the car. Lets play the adding game here.

Car : 600
Engine : Lets just say 600 (for a one that is running ok)
Fluids, bushings, replace anything broken (bolts and what not) $200ish
Rims: 600
Coil overs: 500

That's $2500 right there. That's being cheap also. You have to take in to consideration that the used engine will probably want a rebuild. You also have to put aside some money incase anything else breaks. Having color choices there are a lot of fc's out there for sale. But good luck finding a car that doesn't need much for $600. I mean you can, but it's not everyday you can find one.

I don't have any of the money saved up yet so thats why I am doing this just to get an idea. The more I look the more I realize what a gem the last one I had was. Wow looking at rims I almost accidentally ordered a set.... stupid wholesale account lol. But 500 for new rims and high performance summer tires which is very close to what you said lol. $2500 is totally reasonable to me if it ends up the kind of car I am hoping for. Its a good thing the person that has my old FC likes it so much or I would really regret selling it lol. That thing sat in a garage for 10 years of its life... somewhat normal miles but wow it preserved it well.

Rims? $600?!!! No way - use the stock 15x6's with a decent 205/50R15 tire on them. Plenty of rubber for an NA track car, at least initially. If you want to go wider then find some 15x6.5 vert rims for <$200 and run 225/50R15s. Or get a set of old V6 mustang rims off ebay, 15x7 for less than $100, and run 225's.

The first priority is to get the car running and reliable in semi-stock form and spend the $$ on seat time. Invest time in learning the car and upgrade as you go along.

Don't forget to factor insurance and title fees into your budget.

Have fun,

-b

This is going to be a weekend car I'll drive it on a dealer plate when I wanna drive it. Hell might put it in the dealer name so there's no tax too!

As for the rims and tires I have an account w/ www.wholesaletirerack.com so I can get about 100 bux off over all for rims and tires and I added it up to 500 for both if I go pick them up 45 min away. They are 16" 5 spoke about 20lbs a piece not any main brand but they should be fine for the track. I have no idea yet what its gonna cost to get w/e car I buy up and running well but I know Rolfs_7 should help me out lol. I plan on doing all the little things in the suspension when I get it like tie rods, lower control arms (probably s4 so I can change just the ball joints later) maybe wheel bearings too. I want to run 225's in back and 215's up front. I had 225 all the way around on my last car but it was too much for the front so I think this should be good. My whole goal is just all out handling because I plan on keeping it N/A. And if I ever did decide to put the money into a turbo swap at least the car would be fully prepped.

Does anyone have experience w/ ebiach pro springs on these? I can get them pretty cheap but I would like to lower for a good looking stance as well as handling and they only lower it .8" supposedly which doesn't sound like much.

Also what about ATE slotted rotors? I can get the whole set for like 175 and I think Hawk pads for 100 all around. But I have been considering doing a 4 pistons turbo calipers up front since my whole goal is handling.

One more thing. What about a roll cage? I don't like them but its gonna be a track car it needs to have one lol. I want to still have use of the passenger seat.
