Do I need a new flywheel?

I'm just wondering if anyone here has an opinion on the surface of my flywheel, I have used the thing in the middle and got rid of some dirt/disc stains or what to call it. See the pictures, any thoughts?

That doesn't look too bad in the photos. I would take it to a machine shop and have it re-surfaced. They can do it kind of like getting brake rotors turned. Should make it look like new and doesn't really cost much.

I thought so too, but how hard is it to get the pins out of it? You have to take both clutch disc surface and the mounting surface equally or else it wont work well. Or can I just use as is? Maybe go over it with some fine grit paper?

I don't think you'd have to take the pins out. The machinist should be able to surface just the clutch face. If they did have to come out, a good machinist will have a press and can include that in the work.
If it was me, as long as it was out I'd have the surfacing done. You can take the roughness out by hand, but if there can be a small amount of runout that you may not feel while sanding. That would cause the clutch to chatter when engaging, which is really annoying.

I would add a new pressure plate, pilot bearing and throw-out bearing too, if you haven't already planned it. Considering the effort it takes to get this far, it would seem a small step to insure you have a like-new clutching experience.

cool. I would ask around to find a good machine shop, then take it in and have a conversation. You may be surprised at how reasonable it is for them to make it 'like new'. Imagine the hours and precious elbow-grease you'll save

I would guess that is at the point where it would cause clutch chatter if you put it back in. Thats where it kind of jerks a bunch as it engages. Ive experienced this on a few vehicles when I was a broke *** teenager. Very similar to pulsating breaks caused by the same type of wear. Makes starting on hills really suck bigtime.

Last time (this was a while ago) I went to get a FW resurfaced it was about $30. They have a tool with a slide hammer that pops the pins out and the machining takes about 10 min.

Worth every penny to have your clutch engage smoothly.

flywheel resurfacing usually costs about $40-45.

you don't need to pull the pins out, the machine shop will do that because it is their job.

yes you should resurface that flywheel if you are installing a new clutch or you will have a high possibility of the clutch chattering with no way of curing it once it starts.

you already have the flywheel off, that's the difficult part. no point in being cheap now if you are replacing the clutch, unless you really want to pull the transmission back out prematurely or have people look at you strangely as your car jerks away from stops or you bang your head against the steering wheel in traffic as the jerking drives you crazy.
