Do i need this???

I ported the throttle body on my 87 turbo II... I removed the first set of butterflies.

I was wondering if I needed the control unit (Thermowax?)

The reason I ask is because of the coolant line that goes into it from the rear rotor housing, can I cap the nipple from on the housing?

** Also do I need the Air bypass valve???

If anyone has a write up on what is needed in for the coolant system?

Thanks Jon

you can remove that piece. you can also plug the nipple on the rear iron. i have mine running to the back of the waterpump but i also removed the BAC and am not running a stock turbo (not sure which that nipple is for.)

You can remove it, but I'll bet next winter in Vermont won't be so fun when your try to cold start it. You'll need to get used to giving it some throttle until it warms up.

Well I don't have a stock turbo and I don't drive it in the winter....

So I can remove the BAC, plug the rear nipple?

Will there be any coolant running to the intake manifolds?

Also while we are on this topic... I bought an auto meter coolant temp gauge... the temp sensor that came with the gauge is too big... any suggestions?

you would have to drill into the waterpump housing to install that temp sensor. Lots of people did it for their temp sensor, its most accurate just before the thermostat before it goes into the rad.
Or if you dont want to drill and taking off the water pump housing to do it, you can buy one of those radiator hose adapters for temp sensors. Bad thing is that if your thermostat failes you wont know, and also since its after the thermostat, the temp will be shown cold until the thermostat opens up.

I drove my GXL in the winter for a week with no coolant going through the throttle body and even at normal temp, damn frostings was forming around the plates lol. The TB would get stuck sometimes.....it sucks.

You can cap them all and remove the ASV. The nipples are for it and the AWS (which is gone).

thanks! Does anyone know exactly where in the waterpump housing I'm supposed to drill and tap to put in my autometer temp sensor?
