different distributor
I tried to post this before but it got moved. I am trying to find out what the benifits of having a 12a distributor in a 13b would be. I saw one yesterday it looked fairly simple but is it worth the time? It was on a 3rd gen with a haltech? would i need that to do the swap?

No real benefits that I know of other than it being simple. I have one on my 13B in the race car only because there is no computer to control it. I currently have a Weber sidedraft carb. When I goto a stand alone EMS and some throttle bodies I'll thankfully let the computer(Microtech LT-8) control the ignition. Its better at it than the distributor.

Check out this thread for some actual install info and opinionsclick here
Also search for a member named No7yet. He sells the Microtech. His sig has a link to there site. They are currently working on a group buy. It would be a good time to get one if you have the money.

If you replace the CAS with a distributor, the engine won't run. The CAS is one of the stock ECU's primary inputs. Even if you were using a standalone, a distributor is a significant step backwards compared to full ECU control of ignition timing. A dizzy and coils is no simpler than the stock ignition system, and any aftermarket EMS will control the stock system very well, so you'd just be paying money to lose performance. Don't waste your time.
