Do you mean converted to R134a? Because our cars came with R12 in them, so you would convert it to 134. I wouldnt usually recommend this because R12 runs cooler than when you convert it, and if not done properly, your compressor and other parts could freeze up.

Most A/C shops will do this conversion, but you can just refill with R12 after the leak is corrected. R12 is still available if you look for it.

ok ok ok, lol sorry for the crapy non discriptive title and everything else I messed up on on this thread. I ment I have a converted r134a a/c unit in my car that I'm looking to decompress (may already be but not sure) because I would like to take it out of my car. I don't use the a/c so it is just dead weight. Lol, again sorry for messing the thread up it was early and I was really tired

Piece of cake. IF it's a Sanden, you'll notice that on the top of the compressor there is a lone bolt installed into the body. Get a ratchet and proper size socket. LOOSEN the bolt, but do not remove it. Just unscrew it a turn or so. YOu will hear the gas escaping. Sit back and wait a half hour to an hour for the hissing to stop. Then unscrew it another turn or so and wiggle it and listen for more gass to escape. IF no sound is heard, then carefully remove the bolt. Done. Now package the aircompressor and send it to me for a spare. I'll pay the shipping. Even if its a Denso, I will accept it. I'll even say THANK YOU.

EDIT: ON a Sanden the bolt is 17mm socket size. Do not loosen the 14mm size bolt the holds the high/low inlet/outlet lines on the compressor.

On a Denso, which does not have that 17mm size bolt, just loosen the *B*nuts on the hoses on the rear of the compressor a round or two til all the gas escapes.

P.S. The hole in the ozone layer was observed long before cfc's were in wide spread use. It's been there for eons. Reference books by Dixie Lee Ray and Fred Springer.

Also is the compressor hard to get to if the p/s is still in??? Thanks.

just got the compressor out and damn is all that crap heavy!!! There seems to be more than normal grease and road grime down there I guess something from that compressor was leaking or something. Anyways hailers if you want the compressor just let me know and I'll get a quote on shipping for you. I have to ship some stuff tomorrow anyways so just let me know.

Only problem is that you have to be certified to get R-12. Not anyone can just go to the parts store and buy it. Plus it's really expensive. If I remember correcltly Icemark siad somthing about Freeze 12. Do a search on it.

Icemark uses R12A. JRAT uses Freeze 12. I use R12A and R134 with a six pack of Freeze 12 on the shelf for ??? And five cans of R12 sitting on the shelf, waiting for it to appreciate some more.. I see low, low 40 degrees with R134 and at night high thirties. In Tx. R12A can be had on EBAY.

Yeah, I like R12A better and use it in all the RX-7s, but I use Freeze 12 in my SC400 as it mixes fine with R12.
